Grayling in Fairbanks?

Hey all,
I'll be heading to Fairbanks for work in a few weeks and will have some free time to go after some graylings. Anyone have any suggestions for local shoreline areas to fish and flies to use? I'm assuming the Chena river is where I'll be fishing.
 
I didn't fish it, but the Chena River is a really cool area and it does have graylings. It looked like a great stream to fish. I didn't get a Alaska fishing license and I did regret that.

Chena Hot Springs is worth the visit. Great seafood restaurant, and if you go there in mid-afternoon you will get great service. The hot springs are a great place to warm up on a cold summer day.

Been a long time, but we bought some cheap inner tubes and floated down the Chena? Or some other smaller river. Yellow posted beetles was the name of the game for lots of Grayling. Fun times.
 
I haven't fished the Chena, but I have a friend in Fairbanks and he catches big grayling there all summer. I did fish a lot of grayling when I lived in AK. As far as flies go they aren't very selective. Small emergers and bead head nymphs work great...leeches also as long as they aren't too big. I usually defaulted to an Adams for the enjoyment of the dry fly.
 
We visited Fairbanks for the Northern Lights, and I recall a website of a guy who did Grayling guiding. I think it was near Fairbanks, and an internet search should turn him up. Unfortunately, we couldn't fit it into our Alaska adventure.

Grayling eat pretty much everything, so fly selection is dealer's choice, sz 12ish

If it floats, it’ll probably work…or most nymphs, even buggars…they do have relatively small mouths, but I’ve caught big ones on streamers that surprised me …about as much fun as you can have on a 4wt…
