My neighbor worked for a large tech company. They supplied his group with AI tools. He mentioned that his group thought the tools were cool but they also mentioned amongst themselves that they could be used to replace them. You can guess what happened next to him and his group. He did get eight months severance but far from an ideal situation with one of his kids starting college this fall.

Box Elder county here in Utah is not very happy with the proposed AI data center they want to build there . Supposedly it is a huge complex . Apparently just the electricity to run it , and water to do the cooling is beyond believe .

Son and the global team he managed at Google to support Search functions on Android phones for over a 100 languages just went through this, replaced by AI tools they ncreasingly used.
Not just happening in high tech, every service and information job that can be done by AI to improve profit margins is in the crosshairs.
Dystopia is based on three tenants - technological overreach, climate degradation, and political extremism.
Which pretty much defines today's headlines.

The advances in AI that are actually beneficial to our society in the form of advanced medical treatments, enhanced education resources, energy solutions, etc, represent minimal profit inducement to AI companies whose primary target is selling services to replace payroll.

So as AI roll-outs accelerate taking jobs = sagging economy with high unemployment = less public purchasing power = AI companies focused on securing state and federal contracts paid with by tax revenues = state and federal layoffs to pay for the AI services that have displaced the employees = depressed economy and massive unemployment.

Why are AI stock prices so insanely high? The biggest tech and chip companies are locked into a co-dependent circular supply chain, essentially billionaires exchanging funds with billionaires, owning 45% of the current stock market capitalization and driving 70% of the current growth.

Solutions? China has made it illegal to terminate employees and replace their function with AI, and Germany require mandatory consultations with employee works councils before introducing any new AI system that alters or threatens job responsibilities

Our politicians? Will sell us down the drain for a share of AI profits...under the table of course.

If including my youngest son body count for personal friends losing jobs directly to AI now up to 3.
The latest is a long time buddy who was a commercial business insurance adjuster for decades. An AI contract just took his job along with the other adjusters on his team.
AI and politics - 'doesn't matter in my world'...until it does
 
But the people who stand to make the most say its great !!!

It'll be a time of abundance for all, and a universal high income for everyone !!!

AI robots will replace human labor, allowing unlimited leisure....

Does anyone actually believe Musk when he says these things ?
 
Didn't one of the AI prototypes go feral in the lab and try to kill someone ? I seem to remember an article some place ....🤔
