Heading to Koosky for work next week from the Montana side and managed to plan some time on Sunday to fish the well known river along Hwy 12 on the way. Anyone fish that area recently and willing share some intel on tactics or general sections of river to focus on? I realize the water is high and the upper reaches will probably have the whitewater crowd, but maybe down lower around 3 Rivers? I’ve never targeted bulls before and would love to throw streamers into deep, translucent green water with a two hander and heavy sink tips. Any insight is appreciated, feel free to DM me if you don’t want to post details here. Much appreciated.

I haven’t been down in that area since early April. I wish that weren’t the case😀. The Selway was in spectacular shape at that time, at least compared to what it’s normally like when we’re down there in April. I was hunting so I have nothing to offer for fishing intel.

There wasn’t nearly the snow pack that there normally is at that time but the deeper we got the more there was…more than you might think.

Thanks Coach! Looks like the flows in Lowell are around 9k which is pretty high but hopefully not blown out completely.

Following up, I spent some time Sunday working my way downriver and passing lots of rafters/kayakers on the side of the road. Mostly it was high with very little in the way of fishing options but I did manage to find a few rocky beaches to cast from. Got one pretty good bump on a white mini dalai-lama but otherwise didn’t see much. As I was driving home back upriver late last night I noticed the river had dropped significantly over night and is probably starting to come back i to shape as of today. Smaller tribs and creeks as you say would have been the ticket over the weekend but, man I’ve always want to fish that stretch along the highway, so I guess I can check that box now.

Nice! I love that part of the country.
