My wife and I made a trip to the Everglades area and fished for a few hours with a guide. He had an awesome bass boat which made it very comfortable. The guide encouraged minnows as he said that the fish were not hitting well on flies or artificial lures. We purchased 10 dozen shiners and they were all eaten within 5 hours. Constant action for Mayan cichlids which ran about a pound, largemouth of up to about 2 1/2 pounds, a few peacock bass up to maybe 2 pounds, gar, an oscar of about a pound, a jaguar cichlid of around a pound, a couple of two pound bowfins. I fished flies for awhile and managed 2 peacocks and a gar. The largemouth, gar, and bowfin are native and others are not. Really a human altered environment down there in so many ways.
We saw lots of birds, and some alligators including one named stubby who had lost a portion of his tail to an outboard prop.
A really fun time and especially nice for my wife to catch a bunch of fish. We caught at least 60 between is and lost many more. The gar are particularly notorious for minnow theft.
