The Green ‘26

Since we felt that the rain was going to be much worse tomorrow (we didn't see a drop until we got off the river), we decided to fish B section first…before Red Creek went off. Threw streamers start to finish…

Tomorrow it will rain…fishing A section with a mix of streamers, drys (cicadas & beetles, dropper), nymphing…

To be continued…

The day started ominously…36 and a mix of rain and snow…when we got to the river , the precipitation stopped…decided to start with streamers again, fishing A section

Streamers were slow, only hooking and landing two each, even with quite a few follows. Decided to switch to nymphs…which was a good call, since we started to put bends into the rods

This is what guys do when they first get off the boat for lunch…

This little water ouzel entertained us while eating lunch…it can swim completely underwater and catch these very small fish, then fly back to its nest to feed the youngsters in a nearby nest in the rocks over the water

IMG_8103.jpegIMG_8104.jpegThese two guys did all the heavy lifting for me…egg sac scud & a pmd thread frenchie…

This was an interesting Bristlecone pine…it split into a twin pretty far up the trunk

A couple tank whities rounded out a 20 fish day…

One of the most beautiful trout streams I've ever fished. I keep wanting to go back, but that long, long drive to the middle of nowhere discourages me. We were staying in Park City when it was suggested to us, and it was a 3 hour drive each way from there. I'm gonna' rationalize a trip there one of these days . . . soon!

Yes, you should. It’s worth it. Wait….the snakes..and bears..right @Brute? 😉

the almighty whitey!

great report! looks like a helluva fun trip!

Nice trip report @Brute. Trout fishing the Rockies in April can be a roll of the dice weather wise, but very fun. The coldest trip I ever did was early April on the North Platte Miracle Mile car camping. I haven't fished the Green since the unusually wet summer of '93.

I read they’re going to have heavy water releases this Summer, in an attempt to raise the level of Lake Powell, for power generation at Glen Cyn. Damn…
Something to check into if you’re headed that direction later this year..

There has been real funky water releases already…we were having a banner day today despite the cold and wind…after lunch there was a significant rise in the water level…an hour later and the bite was completely shut down…but it could also have been due to barometric pressure change…started raining heavily as we got off the river…it is now seriously snowing

Indeed! Timing though - looks like late April is still winter there? I think we went in early June. There was a cicada hatch after lunch, and oh my! Watching big browns rise to big dry flies in that clear green water still lives in my mind's eye.

Yes, it does still look like winter…it’s only been about an hour, but it’s starting to stick. Hope its not all night, have to drive an hour and a half tomorrow to Pinedale WY

No bears…,deer, elk, antelope, sheep, otters, muskrat, eagles, falcons…I’ve seen all of these, but not a single bear…yet
Otters ya say....
