Washington States Budget Slashes Result In Campground Closures / Reductions

I prepared economic reports for the Forest Service from 1980 through 2003 every year.

Part of it was to compare Forest Service counties with adjacent counties. King County is pretty incredible for generating state tax revenue. Really somebody in state government needs to look at WHY.

Granted that King County is the economic center for Washington state, but since the 1980's Washington state government has been exempting corporations from state taxes to where today the large majority of taxes comes from small business and consumers through the sales tax.

The statistics on Washington's state operating budget EXCLUDES the WADOT. They spend a ton of money and the counties that get screwed on that deal are the far eastern counties that border Idaho. There was ONE report prepared well over a decade ago that was interesting reading.

I did call WADOT a couple of months ago and asked to be sent their county revenues and expenditures, but they said they don't have it broken out by that. I then asked for it by their regional offices and was again told they don't have it by that. Gas tax dollars flow from east to west, state operating dollars flow west to east. BUT nobody, wants to talk about the cost and revenues for the ferry system!!!

A few years ago, I did download the OFM spreadsheets and found out some interesting things.

For example, Health and Human Services spends MORE money in OLYMPIA helping residents of Adams County than the residents of Adams County receive in aid from the state!

The state gives MORE school aid to rich school districts per pupil than poor school districts. That one I chalked up to an error, until a newspaper article showed that it was actually state policy.

It is too bad that journalists have no science or economics background. There really is no investigative reporting, because the journalists are illiterate in science and economics. The recently deceased economics reporter for the Seattle Times, had a degree in Theater Management!!!

The Office of Financial Management create lots of reports at the request of Legislators. In the past, there has been some great publications including the one on state revenue from large corporations.

If your interested in particular economic issues, it might be worthwhile to ask your Legislator to ask OFM to do a report.
Not only is it now common for journalists to report on complex subjects for which they completely lack even a rudimentary understanding, most newspapers/news organizations have long been cutting any investigative journalism staff they once may have employed. Quick fluff pieces are simply cheaper. Investigative journalism is expensive and time consumptive.

Peeps wanna read about sports, celebrity scandal, and entertainment....not some detailed nerdy stuff they don't wanna understand.

Great post!

Billy, I've about had it with you! I just don't fvckin' get that some members are motivated to make reports about threads. What do we have here? Grown adults so thin skinned and sensitive that they have to go running to a moderator to report a post that they disagree with or it offends them? Good grief people, get a grip on your life! No body is holding a gun to your head making you read mean posts. And BTW Billy, if you don't agree with me, you must be an idiot!
Salmo, fire up another pot of coffee.

Salmo has gotten feisty since he retired !!!

🤣

I never really mastered that skill, so had to go the owner/operator route...now only suck up to clients...and getting poor at that lately.
:)

Ya always gotta consider consequences; piss off a boss or client and it could have real consequences....but piss off a forum moderator and very worst case you get banned...which means you actually may find a better real-world use of your time!

I'm new at internet...so this ' banning' thing...it means I'll have more free time then ?

I don't wanna speak for Salmo because he'll slap me next time I see him. But it looked to me like his comments towards Billy were in fun but those referencing some forum members actions were not necessarily facetious in nature. But again in an effort to not take one upside the head, I would point out that Salmo is a degreed individual while I possess no kind of degree or pedigree to attach to my lowly opinion. I think when he sees the ruckus he started tomorrow morning he'll get as big a chuckle out of it as I did.

After reading a post you have 4 choices. Like, reply, walk away or report. Perhaps one of those choices should require a little more thought and effort than just clicking a mouse especially for that element in any population that looks for excuses to get their panties twisted in a knot.

I apologize for being less than crystal clear about the humorous intent of my earlier post. I have been reprimanded, thanks to you SNAGs (Sensitive New Age Guys) who reported my grossly insensitive behavior. I'd promise to do better next time, except that I forbid myself from making promises I can't keep.

Lol
I don't even internet well, those other things are no doubt beyond me, can't see myself using 'em...can you get banned there too ?

🙂

We'll just come by and unplug your wifi router!! 😄 Not!

You probably got confused, and thought you were on The Dark Side responding to Rich G...
Easy mistake...
;)
