What Are You Eating?

I usually make my burgers with just beef. But I'm trying fancyfied "Dawn's Dream Burgers" from the Vermont Castings Modern Grilling book tonight. Loaded burgers with a sweet and spicy sauce.

They turned out great, worth the extra effort!

I used panko crumbs instead of quick oats and skipped the bacon. Also halved the recipe to use one package of 85% lean ground beef.

Also forgot the egg, but didn't miss it

Grandma is visiting and afternoon turned into a multigenerational baking of "Potica" (pronounced [pɔˈtiːt͡sa] or potitsah), pastry rolled incredible thin (you can read through it!) over a sretched sheet on a table, then filled with chocolate, walnuts, cinnamon, honey, milk and other goodies spread carefully by many hands. The sheet is used to carefully roll the dough and fillings over and over. Baked, sliced and served with a gentle sprinkle of powder sugar. Holiday family tradition, fantastic treat any time of the year.

It reminds me a little of Greek baklava

I can see that, filling is similar, some differences are that potica has a yeast dough that is rolled instead of the layered phyllo dough of the baklava. Texture-wise, potica is more akin to a moist soft sweet bread, more savory-sweet taste than the decadent syrup sweet of baklava. Both are delicious for sure!

Quick and fast arroz con steak! Had leftover ribeye, lots of mushrooms, garlic and onions. Made some rice and a quick guacamole and some crema from the store! Finished with shredded cheese and lime juice! Over rice, I didn't have any tortillas! Need to start making tortillas! This is all for Salmo_g!! 😄 😆

Was tasty and I didn't have much time as i have a Zoom call at 7pm I'm running!

Just a few pictures from today, I was up early so made hashbrowns with SOS and some fresh local eggs for breakfast and had some good sushi 🍣 from QFC for lunch today. Will be on a clear liquid diet for the next 24 hours as I have a test tomorrow.

Cheers!

Saturday night I took Mrs. Salmo out for a belated birthday dinner celebration. We went to a local Italian restaurant we discovered last fall. It's called Bacco Trattoria Italiano. They actually opened just when Covid hit, so it has taken a while for word of mouth to get the news around, but they're packed every night now. The food was excellent as usual, but the wine we got could spoil me for life. I was pretty sure it was the same one we ordered last time, and it was; Barbara D'Asti. So delicious with food. Totally 5 stars out of 4. Makes it hard to go back to Costco box wine, no offfense Costco.
