Dismantling of the USFS

Arbitrary statements on salary without presenting any comparative data, factual background, or even an idea of what upper management job responsibilities entail make for a poorly conceived argument, unlikely to be taken seriously.
It's not like the forest rakers are getting 100 large.

But about those car tabs...

I question the data in the post Send A MIT person to the ability to live on $64k the say is a liveable wage,

💯

Precip has been above average. Snow below average. Is that a drought?

Snowpack determines drought for water supply and irrigation for much (but not all) of the PNW.

At any point on the landscape, drought depends on soil moisture. Much (but not all) of the PNW is currently in soil moisture drought. The site below shows 5 estimates of soil moisture, toggle through them all, and more.

Fire risk map projections (which I have not linked) hit hard in July

"As of early 2026, the average hourly earnings for all employees on U.S. private nonfarm payrolls is approximately $37.17 to $37.55. This represents a roughly 3.5%–3.7% year-over-year increase, reflecting continued, though slowing, wage growth. Production and nonsupervisory employees earn an average of about $31.95 to $32.07 per hour."

As to information sources...whereas many prefer to only view news sources which confirm their bias, when viewing multiple news sources across the spectrum both domestic and foreign, truths and facts tend to become evident.
Try median not average

Based on recent data from early 2026, the snowpack in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest has been experiencing severe declines, with 2026 being described as having the worst snowpack in over a decade, comparable to low-snow years like 2015, 2005, and 1977.

Ten-Year Context and Current Trends (2016–2026):
  • 2026 Crisis: As of April 2026, snowpack levels are critically low, with some areas at only 43% of normal. NOAA labeled it the "worst snowpack in decades".
  • Long-Term Decline: Studies indicate a 20–25% decrease in snowpack at sites like Mt. Hood since the early 1980s.
  • Volatile Interannual Variability: While some years (such as 2023 mentioned anecdotally) may show higher levels, the overall trend is toward earlier melting and reduced total accumulation.

Try median not average
Median factors in a bunch of zeos in a row repesenting people who are not working. Average does the same. Average takes into account the unequal representation at the top better it seems.

It also seems to me that median fully employeed would be the stat to use.

As an aside, I have always found it off putting when I here people complain that another wage earner make too much. Work should be paid for. Labor precedes capital.

If we all just had less, then we would all just have less. Wealth acumulates with the wealthy.

I will leave the politics of it alone
I don't trust the right or the left to be honest about much of anything
We live in the post information age. If your opinion is formed by a political party
A news outlet or an NGO you are being lied to for their political gain.. point blank, that is the world we live in.

My only problem with the forest service, that I know of, is duplication.

The forest service should be for managing timber sales
The BLM should manage the land
The us fish and wildlife service should manage the fish and wildlife.

Here is how they work together

Forest service: we need some timber sales
BLM: Here is what's available
FIsh and Wildlife service: here is what our biologists say we can safely cut.

And similarly for all the other functions of the 3 services

The Forest service and BLM shouldn't have biologists they belong in the fish and wildlife setvice.

I think you get the idea. The less money we spend on duplicating very high paying roles the more we can spend on actually doing work.. yes over 100,000 a year is very high pay.
The news used to tell you what happened and let you decide what to think.
Now the news tells you what to think and you get to decide if it happened

Mine expire this month, appreciate the reminder
You bet
I endeavor to be of help in any way I can.

Mine are also due on my car this month, my truck was a couple months ago....I will not be complaining, or whining like a little girl, but will simply pay them.
;)

I wasn't complaining about people's high wages. I think it's great and people should make as much as they can. But when it comes to the federal budget and our whatv39 trillion in debt. Cuts and deep ones need to be made and eliminating duplicate responsibility/expenses is very low hanging fruit.

Good for you compliant citizen 21240

For reference since I'm sure it will be asked. 75 percent water availability is the drought demarcation level. Yes, the snowpack sucks. But resavoirs look pretty full up from what I see. Now I know I shouldn't trust what I see with my own eyes so I'll have to dig into that and get the official statistic from the same folks declaring a draught maybe.
