I need to find a new fighting butt for one of my 12 weight NRX classic fly rods. The old fighting butt was ripped off during a recent Cubera snapper fight and some of the cork broke off it. Does anyone know of a fly rod repair business in the Seattle area that could produce a new substitute?
Thanks!

To prevent that in the future, I would focus on targeting stocker trout. 😉

My guy is here in PDX area, sorry. Does great work though.

Can you DIY? It seems removing the broken bit, sanding and adding another cork ring should do it. If not, I can think of an eclectic workshop in Burien...Corks of Burien, or Hotrodz of Burien (@Bambooflyguy , he had a different user name then), we had a related discussion on cork repair/rebuild in the WFF some years ago:

I am more partial to Champagne cork than wine corks.

Have seen the fish this guy catches?

No diy job is going to suffice...

*I like the champagne corks too!

I could fix it for you. Its probably easiest to order a new fighting butt and replace it or make it one that you can screw in and take off if you don't need it. Can you post a picture of the butt section of the rod? I live in Redmond and have made many rods, even built them commercially for a year.

It may be possible to just glue it back on, but replacing it is probably best!

It’s an easy fix! What’s the diameter of the broken section? Overall length? Your broken one could be fixed……
I'll take some measurements tonight. 🙂

A kind offer! It would be an easy epoxy attachment for the new butt.

Seems like something that would fall under Loomis' warranty. Have you contacted them?
I contacted Loomis to buy a new NRX fighting butt, however they will only replace the tip section for this model now.

I fell like we're burying the lead here. @DimeBrite did you say Cubera Snapper!!??
Yeah, they are nasty fighters. Hooked it up and the violent spasms tore off the fighting butt, which dropped into my stripping basket. When I get the photos I will post later.

Bill was recommended to me by @Phil K and did a nice job repairing my XP for me. Super nice guy. You might contact him to see if he can do the repair for you.

If you were north of the border, I'd say ship it to me, easy fix. Got to love factory rods and cheap epoxy. Pretty generic fighting butt, could probably order one from any of the rod building suppliers for $5 plus shipping, clean up the blank where the old butt was and glue the new one on with some 15min. 2 part epoxy.
