About a month ago, I was at this lake and it still had ice on it. But the ice is off now so I went fishing this morning. And yes, this is the first fish of the year. Well, actually two. The first one was a very soft take, it almost didn’t seem like I had a fish on. But then it must’ve woke up and the fight was on. And it had plenty of fight in it. Thankfully, I finally got it into the net. I’m guessing it was somewhere around 18 or 19 inches. It was definitely a very healthy holdover. It did have some strange marks on its back. I’m not sure what those were from.
Again, the next one was another soft take. But just like the last one, all hell broke loose, and the fight was on. This one was much more deeply colored than the first one. It managed to get pretty wound up and getting the hook out was not an easy task. As a result, it got a bit of a ripped lip.
Both fish were taken on a Carey pattern that was tied by @Dave Westburg. Dave, thanks again for the great flys and the vintage fly box.

Tomorrow morning, I might go looking for some Lahotan cutthroat…IYKYKIMG_1450.jpegIMG_1454.jpeg
