I am thinking of heading to Nevada come Sunday, to fish Monday - Wednesday next week. I have never fished it so I have no idea what I’m doing. Figured a couple 8wts and predominantly strip/flutter various flys. Any help on patterns or locations would be greatly appreciated ❤️

Less populated, camp-able spots would be nice. Still not sure how access really is.

Ladders work, and it does depend on how high the water is each year, but I liked to fish quieter beaches to the north and south of the usual ladder only beaches which tend to be shallower. In some places you can stand back from the dropoff and fish, even sight fish, the rock edges they cruise along. Get local chronomid, leech, and popcorn flies to use.

Don't rent a boat. Little value, and if it's gets windy, your expensive boat will sit on its trailer.

Don't get stuck in the sand.

I didn’t even know there were ladder only beaches. Doh! Thank you for these tips! I’ll start at the most northern open beach and work down I guess. I like some of the photos that show rocky outcrops where folks walk on.

Less interested in ladder stuff but I’ll probably do it one day why not.

If you are trying to avoid the crowds the rocky points are some of the most crowded areas of the lake in the spring. And if you google most popular beaches to fish and drive around the shoreline you will see these are all wall to wall with people in spring.

There are plenty of less crowded beaches which still produce plenty of fish. You can also wade out waist deep and fish without a ladder. Over the course of the day you will just feel colder and may need to get out and warm up.

Popcorn beetles/booby style flies on a full sinking line and a double chironomid rig under an indicator will have you in fish.

It’s not that the beaches are ladder only….its just that on the shallower beaches that have a gradual slope you need to wade out to get to the dropoff. The ladder just allows you to get up higher, and, out of the water. I think some guys used to stand on milk cartons.

It’s a massive lake. Fishing can be all over the map at any of the given beaches.

Another tip….if you are stripping back to ur ladder/shore, keep your fly/flies in the water right to the end. Those fish are notorious followers

the wind is legit out there!

One thing to remember is the way the lake sits, you are fishing the western shore…the prevailing wind out there is blowing to the east…..another reason why boating can be interesting. I’ve seen people get blown all the way across with a dead motor.

That said, be prepared for anything at Pyramid….its a funky place.

Not sure how much has been discussed about how corrosive the alkaline water is, but I ALWAYS soaked my reels in fresh tap water after each session. That water will corrode the innards of a reel big time.

Tons of awesome info thank you very much! My goal is to find some less crowded beaches, don’t mind less fish if it means not as many folk (as long as I can catch something ha!) Maybe I’ll combat fish one day, and find desolation the next.

I have a slew of lines/reels and rods I’m taking. Going to tie up a couple patterns this evening, probably a streamer, a wetfly/chironomid, and a booby. I’d really rather strip, flutter or somehow keep a tight line instead of bobbers. But I do have it too 🤠
