Without getting deep into politics

1. Our state is spending way too much money
2. The state is doung things they shouldn't be doing
3. If they won't cut the budget they should cut their own pay not mine.
Yes increasing taxes is giving me a pay cut.

Maybe for most people 200 bucks is no big deal, maybe 1 dollar per gallon in gas taxes is no big deal. Maybe 30% increases in fishing licenses amid drastically reducing fishing opportunity is no big deal to some. It's not a small thing to my budget.
I know you're trying not to make it overly political but your general statements don't say much beyond that the government and in this case our state government wastes money. I am more concerned with increased fees for less services.. and my money is very tight these days. No more than yours or most on this site!

But we're talking about a truck to tow your boat here. And a bigger, older truck! I'm not judging however there is a cost for those things. My only thought for the truck, in your case is that it's 25 year old, so can it be classified as a collector vehicle that you don't drive much and hopefully cost less in licensing fees and insurance cost? I don't know the answer and how it works specifically in our state but know it does exist and may be possible in your case.

I'll leave it at that and wish you good luck! I had to buy a new battery for my Kia yesterday.. $250.. got to make a visit to the ER after the paramedics came, since I thought I was having heart issues. All covered by insurance.. turned to be a pulled muscle right by my heart and hurt like hell! Won't be 100% for a few days at least! But it turned out well! Cheers! FlyBill

No big deal?
Careful assuming things of others.
I’m on a fixed income now.

Im FOR-GOING the fees!!! These days im just OPTING OUT!!! Basically, when comes down to it the bottom line is: look, I ain't paying. They're just gonna have to DEAL with it!!
Tellem “my dog ate my licence”
I think it's the gross weight fees that are driving up the cost. @Rob Allen said it's for a truck. For fun I just checked online for my 2006 1/2T Silverado, and looks like it's going to be $137 total this year, $120 of that is Gross Weight fees. If Rob's got a heavy 3/4 or 1T, I can see it maybe approaching $200.
My 95 Toyota pickup is $134 for a new sticker. My insurance went up a bunch in ghe last year too. Have to have insurance which is raised whenever for whatever too. Golly that fine print. I drive a junker. Maybe the key is in that fine print? Re: age tax
Maybe I will just buy a new pair of comfy walking shoes?

Probably because Rob’s truck weighs a lot more than your truck.
Except it doesn't. That's the strange part. He's got a 2001 F-150, I've got a 2006 Silverado 1500. Both 1/2 Ton trucks. In fact the official GVWR on mine is a tad higher. Weird.

He said ...maybe.

Being on a fixed income...you made that decision.
Oh i agree I did, but so did he.
It’s all in how you look at it, break it down on a per month cost, it’s not so insurmountable.
$15.5 a month for me. Way less than a dinner out for one person.

Made that decision long before the current people gave the serious fee hikes

Many have no choice. Planning? There are innumerable decisions made by others that modify “plans”. Examples: 9-11 killed caree
rs, husband and wives lose employment at the same time 2007-2009 .that is significant economic history. Divorce division of assets. Depression alcoholism unemployment in your 50’s. This was the autobiography of way to many late in their careers. Decisions? We make them daily.

Whoops, I thought he was licensing the 2017 F350 but that was somebody else. 🤷‍♂️ My bad

Cheapest I ever paid for gas was 18.9 cents per gallon at the token operated Gas-A-Mat pumps in Sheridan CO. 1972 Vega. I think it cost me like $3 to drive to Lincoln NE to see my mom. Coors beer was $1.99 a case so we took her about a dozen of 'em.
We would get those gas wars going here in Utah when we first moved here in the early 60's ,I don't remember seeing it below .20 but ,pretty common for awhile to see it in the 20's . Before we moved to Utah , raised in northern Montana , my dad worked for a small oil refinery in Chinook . If I remember he was paying around 15 cents per gallon from the oil refinery there in the 50's . I am sure it was more in the gas stations .

Life is like boxing.. everyone has a plan til they get punched in the face.

Rob isn't exactly wrong here. WA takes in billions $$$ more in revenue than ever. WA doesn't have a revenue problem. WA has a spending problem. Our government has never seen a tax it didn't love nor a program it didn't want to fund. Except fisheries monitoring on the Skagit and Columbia Rivers. And then it added another fee for the Columbia River.

Me and the girlfriend were comparing registration fees and noticed that the more fuel efficient vehicles were being assessed higher fees.

For some reason that seems like an oxymoron…

Or it could just be the morons running the show.

😉

Fuel efficiency brings in less in gas taxes, so they gotta' make it up elsewhere. The bean counters are good at that 'rithmetic stuff.
