Curious what is your goto magic sauce with these right now? Looks like a sinker line of sorts.

It’d behoove me to get into bass on the fly.
Sinker. Type 4 today, but I carry everything frome a type 7 to a floater. Usually only carry two rods rigged with type 4 and one rigged with intermediate. Swap out if necessary.

These are river smallies, right?

Yes. Biiiig river.

Those are great fish! A 3# SM in current will Give you all you can handle.
one of these days I'll actually start using my scale that's been in my boat bag for the last couple of years! At least then I've some idea of actual weight on some of these (or at least give me a better sense of length/girth/weight...as it is, it's more like, "that's an '8wt fish'" or "that's a '10wt fish'"

granted, I haven't actually hooked more than one (maybe two) '10wt fish'.....but I have hooked a lot of '8wt fish' on a 7wt and been wishing I had my 8wt.

I like your rod weight scaling system!

I have never measured a bass but I’ve weighed thousands of them. After a while you get pretty good at eyeballing what they weigh. You probably won’t need to scale many before you will easily see the difference between 2,3 and 4 pounders.

thanks!

I know, that's why I need to start...

I've gotten really good at estimating length on tiger muskies when they're in my net. It's nice that I have my net handle marked off to verify right then and there.

The damn scale is an entire turn of the body and reaching into my boat bag, so way too much work....lol
