Bad cold or something viral

Wowza! Sounds like a nasty bad bug. Mrs. Salmo came home from taking our grandson to Disneyland 2 weeks ago, and she was wheezing pretty bad. Today, 2 weeks later, she still sounds a bit froggy in the morning. I've been sleeping in my recliner in the living room, and - knock on wood - have so far avoided coming down with whatever it is.

Remember when the common cold lasted 6 or 7 days and then - gone! I don't know if immune systems are getting weaker, or viruses are getting stronger, but it seems like a lot of colds and flu hang on for two weeks, and even longer. Be well everyone!

Yeah I went through/going through the same. End of January I got symptoms that were identical to when I last had COVID a few years back but no fever this time. A really old COVID test showed positive but a re-test with a brand new test showed negative. Those symptoms lasted about a week and then the sinus pressure/mucus/cough started. I still have a wicked cough especially at night. 😭

I was stunned when my doc told me that OJ was one of the worst things that you can drink when sick due to the high amount of mucous that it produces.
Yeah it is bad for mucus.. but enough vodka or whisk(e)y thin's it out! And to be clear.. I'm not doing that... cheers though!

Yeah I don't know how OJ ever got touted as a remedy. That much acid on a raw throat alone is brutal. All for, what, a little vitamin C? The blood sugar spike and everything else will set you back further than whatever something like a little vitamin C would assist with.

definitely a nasty virus making the rounds...first sign of symptoms best to request an anti viral, most effective in the first two days of onset. Also lots of sinus infections with this one, so if a rainbow coalition starts coming out of your nose likely need see your health care provider pronto, as bad sinus infections can drip into and infect the lungs = bronchitis and even pneumonia.

What pronoun do I use if I see this rainbow coalition? Asking for OMJ!

Caught a bad bug and have been to the ER (early Tuesday morning) and Urgent Care last night. Nothing prescribed, just common sense care.. lot's of rest, fluids, etc. I'll be laying very low this weekend and see my PCP next Friday, if not sooner.

The cough has been so bad that it occasionally causes my bad back to spasm! A deep cough and sinuses have released like the hounds.

I was tested and negative for Influenza A and B, RSV, Covid and Pneumonia (with a chest x-ray). I know the Flu vaccine choices where not effective this past year, so it's likely a strain of the flu.

Keep yourselves safe! Cheers (with OJ) !!
Smart move to get tested for pneumonia with those symptoms!

Abby is on day 2 1/2. Came home from school Wed and barfed in a bag while working on her bike in the garage.
Fever, chills, nausea, vomiting. She's upset because she lost her perfect attendance for the year @school.
Tried weak green tea with lemon, nope. Weak black tea with honey, nope. Watered down chicken soup, maybe lasted 2 hours. Making sure she at least gets water into her.

I have great doctor's, and the ER and Urgent Care doctor's and teams were great! I help by making sure they know all of my issues, the big ones being Diabetes, gout and NASH to name a few. Being immunocompromised it's extra important and because I care for my 81 yo mother, the earlier I know the better!

My experience is that if you're generally healthy and not in a certain age bracket, good luck getting a scrip for a "sinus infection" if it hasn't hit the 2-week mark, no matter how colorful the products. Gotta save the antibiotics for the factory farm livestock, can't give 'em to me. Not until 2 weeks of suffering has passed, anyway. Which, is usually about a week or two after the onset of the initial virus for me, so it has ended up being a solid month of crud from a cold + infection.

ugh...shouldn't be that way. As soon as a primary care doc or NP hears sinus discharge is colored with sinus pressure present and has been persistent = infection that needs treatment.

I got a laugh out of that one! Some cold meds have or had alcohol in them so maybe you are on to something? I guess if you were rippin drunk the cold would not bother you as much either. That's not a prescription just a comment LOL!

Wash yo hands, boyz and frequently! Every bathroom trip and keep them hands away from the nose and mouth. I feel for all of you that have it. Am isolated, so nothing yet unless the daughter or caretaker brings it on.

Well I sure do.. not germophobic, but I wash them frequently!
