SFR New used truck - potentially

Sorta fishing-related
I'm putting this off for a few months. I have a few other leads on an older f150s..plus I need to feed my cigar habit!! πŸ˜†

Fire sale! Anyone need a truck with a little fire damage πŸ’”! πŸ˜„

Back to the older F150s and the coyote engine. Which year(s) are best? I like the idea of getting the older one and probably buying it outright or just financing less!! I haven't had a car payment in over a decade and makes life much easier!

Live simple! So much more relaxing and chill!

2010-2014 seems to be the sweet spot

So I decided to just drive my Kia for a while.. buy a roof rack from Kia, $250, add some yellow fog lights.. with the wiring $150ish or less and fix the front quarter panel. $100 at Pick and Pull in Lacey i think.

It won't be 4wd but will make it better for me and only $500 or so. I'll have to figure out how to remove and replace the panel.. Youtube will work or worst case I'll pay one of you guys in whiskey, beer, wine, brisket or sourdough bread!! πŸ˜„

I am so glad I am not looking to buy a new vehicle. This and other threads have convinced me of that. It appears that new vehicles cost a lot more, have lower quality, and higher repair costs. Pay more for less? Makes no sense to me at all...

I have never bought a new vehicle. Always bought used. The old adage 'drive it off the lot reduces the value by 20%+' prevented it. New vehicles now cost more than my first house. My belief is that vehicles are for a utilitarian purpose, use it for what it was intended. Not to be a comfortable living room with all the gadgets. It is not to impress others nor have every gizmo that will never be used. Many friends have shown me their new vehicles and all the comforts of home and associated gizmos only to complain in a year or so how much it costs to maintain or repair them. Vehicles are not an investment, but rather a sinkhole of funds.

Many of the new features are 'safety oriented'. A very good thing for sure! In the last 40 years I have been in 4 accidents and in all cases vehicle number 2 was a " Washington State Deer". None of those safety improvements would of prevented those accidents...

How much is one actually going to use a pickup truck bed? My Honda Ridgeline has a 5' bed and when the tailgate is down, 6 1/2'. Meets most of my needs. I can load 10' boards thru my back window or on top of my canopy. Is an 8' bed really necessary? Are you going to load gravel and bark in your pristine bed? Why have a pickup truck when a SUV will do much the same function almost all of the time? Just rent a truck or have it delivered is much better choice.

The last vehicle I bought is 89 years old. No gadgets, no electronics, no gizmos, just a reliable vehicle that is much better looking than any current mass production vehicle that has lots of issues. I can actually work on it too!

I’ve been looking at Toyota Highlanders. It’s interesting that the 2027 model will be fully electric (BEV). I’m seeing range estimates at 270-320 miles. I’m not against electric but I’m surprised they aren’t offering it as a hybrid as well. It’s an interesting decision since Toyota to have been much slower to jump on the fully electric bandwagon than other manufacturers. They’ve offered hybrids in just about all their models.

I mostly agree with you, but I'm not really just an A to B driver. I do like the bells and whistles.. and know what I want for the most part! Stealth capability isn't available yet, nor flight mode like in Avengers... i.e. Nick Fury!

I do like a certain style, color, body style, sick wheels and tires (whips and shoes)! A strong engine and an automatic, with trip tronic so I can shift if I want too! Even my Kia has that!

So new is in the running.. 2 years old is probably new enough.. as long as it's been well maintained! And per Brecks advice I will strongly consider an extended warranty!

I do think more vehicles have better quality, the downside is everything is computer controlled and with more features, there's more chance of failure and very expensive fixes...

I just looked at sequioas. They are hybrid now with a battery box bump around the back seat. It made a giant vehicle basically unusable. They got space for 6 people but luggage for 2. I don't know if highlanders have a similar save taking bump in their back area.

Well, I guess that our 2015 Highlander will the last one in our family. It only has 140K miles on it and runs great. Ski car in the winter and waterski car in the summer when my wife leaves it hooked up to her Mastercraft from July through the end of September. We gifted out 2001 Sequoia to our nephew who really needed another vehicle at the time. It had 301K miles on it when we gave it to him and it’s still running strong. Never leaks oil and we never had to do any major engine or transmission repairs. Changed the oil regularly.

I love my mom's 2016 Highlander! Only 53k miles.. she rarely drives, maybe twice a week for errands and not very far. It will probably be mine at some point.. although she may want to give it to her granddaughter who doesn't really need it.

It does have an issue with the stero sound system, Bluetooth doesn't work and it wont save radio presets. Fucking Toyota of Kirkland wanted $250 just to diagnose the problem and she bought it there.

I'll just go to car toys and put a bomb assed system in for under $1500.. more likely under $1000. The new wiring harness is expensive and I've already priced it out for the most part!

Like I said above, we are on our second highlander hybrid. I think it's a great car, and a nicer ride than my Forester.

There could be a potential ride quality and safety improvement in hybrid SUV's in that the added weight of hybrid power train can shift usual nose heavy weight rearward for better balance. That makes everything better, safer, and more planted feel from a handling perspective.
