I harvest garlic in july and August , leave out to cure and dry in summer heat the plant in September. Mine (160 cloves are up 6-8” now. But downtown Vancouver is setting mild weather records now. 167 broad Winsor Fava bean plants up6-12” now . Koeau raddish and lacinata kale growing well. Astro arugula pickex every week for a while now. Celery stripped of leaves and dried today in my electric dryer for grinding tomorrow.Figure I'd kick things off garlic is sprouting and the robins are singing like crazy, wont be long boys and girls.
Scary place? Way better than Potland! You are close to my 'hood and it is as quiet as a mouse.Bought a few large compressed coco coir and soaking . Stored locally sma day delivery rather than driving to Clackamas to Concentrates Inc. which for me is a very scary place to ho to buy way too much soil amendmentsView attachment 176776
I worked and commuted to portland , multnomah and clackamas counties for almost 40 years- jobs, careers and becuse sw wa just did not have material sources I needed as a designer-drove there often. Traffic is an evil monster and I have avoided it over there for about 15 years now and will continue to. I enjoy tranquility and hiding out in my quiet neighborhood and garden. Opinions do vary. I walk to stores from my Arnada neighborhood , rarely drive anywhere. We might drive somewhere a couple times a week is all and like it that way. Drivers today are batshit crazy and so self indulged i have almost been clipped by a car walking in this area a couple times in the past few years. Yes it is quiet hear but as soon as you get into a bumper car it becomes a contest. To heck with that. I have become a GOM of late and intolerant to boot.Scary place? Way better than Potland! I pay monthly to be allowed to stay here and contribute everything but my fly fishing… or rather lack of it. I have 9 fly rods , 3 fly tying vices 40 years worth of hackle, hooks and other gear. I live on SSA and have not fly fished or had a fishing license for 7 years. I can’t afford to fix the front end of my truck so it runs but I do not drive it anywhere except around a few blocks to make sure it runs great in case I have to escape somewhere.I really can’t afford to drive a minimum of 120 miles to fish the way I used to. I used to be concerned about that. But I have spent a lifetime adapting and keeping myself entertained. There is all kinds of traffic. I am way more concerned about the traffic not involving mechanical transportation today.I agree on the traffic, so try to stay local. Am located on the south side of the Milwaukie Expressway where there is 1 Safeway just north of me, 1 middle school and a few churches. Lucky to live south of the hornet nest (State Troopers Office), so most of them live in the 'hood. If anything did happen, the whole shift ends up here in mass. Nothing like Potland where gangs shoot at each other and someone dies almost every day. So far, my truck has not moved for a year...
