Perhaps shares DNA with the old Smoky Mountain patterns Orange Palmer, female Palmers (had a lady Amherst tail) etc. Those old flies still work!

The Ausable Bomber is a Fran Betters pattern from upstate New York. It floats like a cork.

Mr. Betters created the Haystack, Usual, Ausable Wulff, and many other patterns. he leaned toward easy to obtain, inexpensive materials, so lots of deer hair, snowshoe, woodchuck, and possum.

Hook: any dry fly, size ten or smaller (up to very small)
Thread: Hot Orange or red
Wing: Calf tail or calf body hair
Tail: Woodchuck fur guard hairs
Body: Orange dyed oppossum, or any orange fur
Rib: Fine copper wire
Hackle, mixed brown and grizzly, palmered.

I tie them with Green, Orange, and Black thread colors. Many times when the "normal" Orange is not productive, the green and/or black will do the job

Sometimes I use the snowshoe wing and tail but make the body with hares ear or something else. It's a nice foundation to play around with!

My "Throw Back Thursday" fly this week the Delaware Adams
It was 1st tied by the First Family of Catskill Fly Tiers—Walt, Winnie Dette, and today, Mary Dette—has tied flies for both anglers and collectors for decades. Those of us fortunate enough to have acquired some original Dette patterns have never known for sure which of the three tiers made the flies; that was the way they wanted it. It was kind of a “share the wealth” attitude. One of the most popular flies in their repertoire is the Delaware Adams. The “Del” is almost stately and elegant in appearance. It was tied as a variant to the Adams. It's not exactly know what the Adams was tied to Imitate.
