NFR College Football 2025

College football use to end around Thanksgiving weekend then teams who qualified played Jan 1st. So it’s been that way for a bit. However things will change when the bowl game contracts expire.

True, but way back then teams were just playing in bowl games with the champs crowned by the AP or coaches polls. All the teams had the same amount of time off and there were no byes, even with the BCS or four team CFP format.
I can see them going to 16 teams. If they do that, have the first round of games start immediately after the conference championships games with no byes. The top eight teams get home games and no Group of Five teams included.

Why do you hate the Group of 5 ?

🤔

Hate might be a strong word but the idea of an Oregon State or Fresno State winning a national championship would ruin the natural hierarchical order of college football. If you want the best 16 teams you have to consider the group of 5 top teams too. MHO.

Boise St. Is Group of 5 team...

Why do you hate Boise St. ?

Why do you hate the Pac-12 ?

You got a lotta hate here now, don't ya ?

I don’t hate them, I just think they should have their own playoffs like the other divisions. Like I mentioned in a previous post, the three group of five teams so far in the 12 team playoff have lost by an average score of 41-19. That average would have been even worse had Oregon actually played defense against James Madison in the second half. If people enjoy watching blowouts, then they should continue including group of five teams in the playoffs.

Tennessee and Oregon got blown out last year in the CFP’s. 😉
Not sure how much a coach leaving and all the drama that comes with it and having a new coach in the building but being coached and
playing for coaches that are on the go affects the team but there must be some negative impact. James Madison kinda got screwed in that department. But that is what it is today.

Well G o 5 teams are going to get a spot until the end of conferences, which will probably be 5 -10 years. Then it will just be divisions, likely based on existing conferences, and a 14 game season for the extra revenue ESPN wants/needs to stay afloat going forwards. Probably be something like 6 16 team divisions, perhaps more like 8 14 team divisions, and elimination of the easy games to start the season like Alabama vs Inbred St.

Then it will be mostly similar to NFL playoffs, wild cards etc.

And what happens when Boise State goes 16-0 and wins the G- 5 Championship in fashion and a 13-3 Texas ekes out the CFP championship. Who is really the National Champion? 🤣

Probably have to reclassify the schools. D1Pro for the bigger schools? 😆

WSU will be the G of 5 Champions...

Go Coogs !!!!

🤣

That is an easy answer. Texas because they play a SEC schedule versus a MW schedule.
What is the reality that a G5 team wins a national championship in the current playoff format? I’d say slim to none. 😂
Yes they might win a game or two in the future but they just don’t have the resources to win the whole thing. Are they going to out spend P4 teams to build a roster?
Look at it this way. My numbers might be off a bit, but there are 69 power four teams including ND. There are 71 teams if you add up the AAC, CUSA, MW, MAC, Sunbelt and PAC 12.
Would those teams rather have a chance to win a national championship against similar competition or a feel good story that they got into the playoffs as a group of five?
I can guarantee if they had a group of five playoff it would produce some great games like the lower division playoffs do. Who wouldn’t like to see more games? If the money is there, it could happen. 😉

Well it's always about the money, so if the G o 5 can cobble together enough sponsors and TV revenue, then there would be 2 concurrent playoffs at once, and another 8 bowl games of interest I suppose.

So much chatter about G5 says a lot about today's Orange Bowl.

Yawn..

It really doesn't say much...those who are watching, are likely not posting much. But yes, definite "yawn"....hence me posting now. 😀

I think what might happen is the P4 pony up enough money with future TV contracts to help the G5 consider options besides being included in the current playoff format.
The reality is that the SEC and Big 10 are driving the bus as to what will happen in the future.

Ducks should kick a field goal to go up by 2 scores. Otherwise a TD by TT may be a winner for them.

Yay!!!

The conferences are the issue...a handful of teams and AD's are grabbing all the cash they can, and frankly hurting the sport as a whole. Now private equity wants in, and they are all to happy to let them in. Outsized influence by those 2 isn't making things better, but it is what it is I guess.

I believe this was yesterday but I saw a different video of them using squeegees this morning as well. They’ll need to use the long cleats.
