Seeing the movie, 2001 Space Odessey was enough to be wary of AI. That HAL was spooky! Besides the scammers now using AI...

stunning...

"This year alone companies will spend twice as much on AI ($600 billion) as we spent to build the entire interstate highway system. The interstate highway system was built over about 36 years and cost around $300 billion in today’s money."

Everything has plus’s, minus’s. We can’t stop progress, complaining won’t.
AI keeps getting better, I doubt many here realize because I still see them complaining how AI has trouble with fingers, etc.
i was amazed how with simple tools, my wife can do things. Imagine the more complex programs.

This photo was taken by her last September.

She turned it into this last night in about 10 minutes.

Truly looks like our dog, totally different pose. And all toes in place.
So, AI is already manipulating your thoughts.

I still stand by the statement that this isn't going to be a net positive for us. It'll be used and weaponized to benefit a few while the rest of us are distracted with using it to make funny pictures and all while unknowingly helping train it.

Of course it will be used such, I’m not denying that.
But a lot of things have been weaponized through history, even the internet itself, forums, phones, cars, tv’s

But how many of us will do our part to fight the injustice? Think about how we are in the beginning stages of fighting for customer service. Everything works great on Amazon if your problems are the 90th percentile otherwise good luck! But Walmart and Amazon have very competitive pricing. If you order from Walmart you can look the customer service rep right in the eye because walmart has brick and mortar stores. We preserve jobs, avoid AI bots and pay low prices. Our battle with unwanted aspects of AI start with us.

Besides the huge ethical issue of replacing human jobs with AI and the long list of previously discussed issues, One very problematic issue I am seeing is how major tech companies are pulling out of consumer PC parts. Micron is ending their crucial line memory. They are doing so to be able to sell more memory to AI data centers... Nvidia, a lead graphics card developer and manufacturer is going to be cutting consumer gpu output by 40% next year in favor of AI data centers. Following this train of thought leads to, as time goes on more of the delicate ecosystems around the US being ended by data center development. Nvidia is also pushing another problematic issue at hand here. They are attempting to get people to instead RENT a gpu from them, the same gpu they manufactured but at a price that only benefits Nvidia. It all seems to lead to a worrying future where personal computers are rent to use, not unlike the blackrock buying single family homes to then force to rent.

I will probably be banned for the following, but this thread had nothing to do with fishing, environment etc. And now our government is in bed with the tech companies, pushing AI, facial recognition etc. and trying to ban states from implementing constraints on AI.
People only have themselves to blame. My father always told me, don’t bitch about something unless you try to change it.

The government's in bed with everything except the working class hero consumers.
Technically, it is NOT the government "in bed", but our elected representatives. And as with any street walker, you do have to PAY for their services.

I did my six month monthly check on what the internet is saying about me........

It did get my age right, it did get my address right.

It got my ethnicity wrong thinking I was of Middle Eastern origin. No wonder I get all those clicks on my phone, when I try to make an outgoing call!!!

It got my voter registration wrong. Geez, that is public record. So they guessed instead of checking a public record?? Oh well, it just means I will NEVER get a job in western Washington.

And it missed on my income. It said I made lots and lots of money, but spent it ALL as my net worth is equal to my income.

Oh well, at least AI has integrity for now........from Chat GPT........................................

I cannot provide specific private personal details about an individual such as their home address, voter registration, or detailed employment history.

What I

If you’re trying to find public or official information about someone (for example, for genealogy, history, or research), I can walk you through the legitimate ways to look for records, such as:

Professional networking sites (e.g., LinkedIn) for job history that the person chose to publish.
Published articles or websites where the individual might be mentioned.
Public business filings or professional licenses (if applicable).
Public records databases that are legally accessible (sometimes for a fee).

Combine the current information on the net with AI and we are all under the thumb of the tech companies. I wonder if they would start "selling" the ability to "edit" your personal information that is flying around on the web in the near future. And how much would they charge???

If I was still working I would sign up for a VPN, set up sanitized social media sites (after all I am such a wonderful person), and encrypt all my text messages and emails end to end.

You are already under this threat. An old BMW from the late 2000's had a "battery monitoring system." You were supposed to have a BMW dealer reset the ECU to accept the new battery. This was a new profit center for BMW that really the user did not have to follow. A costco battery without programing worked fine in 2008. Fast forward to 2025 and the BMS can be integrated with the car ECU so that failure to use the dealer the car won't start. You can physically change the battery but the car won't start without paying the dealer to reset the ECU to accept the new battery. This is happening with Ferrari mandating Dealer installed batteries and dealer installed brake pad changes. Ferrari owners aren't screaming because 99% of ferrari owners don't fix their own cars anyway. I don't know if other OEM car makers have got to this level of preventing owner "option to repair" but they easily can with today's ECU programing capability. At this point the line blurs between renting and owning since ownership implys you can do whatever you want but that's being taken away at a rapid pace restricting what you can do just like any rented commodity. OEM even want to prevent independent mechanics from fixing your car by withholding access to data and programing ability with dealer only proprietary computer tools or dealer only online access to OEM's. In essence you don't own anything if you can't do what you want with it. There is legislation for "right to repair" and we should all support it.

unfortunely familiar with this as well :/ Everyone should be supporting right to repair it's a no brainer to have in every industry, well except for the people running those industries since theres no money in it...

Ford has this. But cost of battery and install was same as buying one at parts store. They warned me when I went to buy a battery.

Fast forward a few years.
No need to own a vehicle or pay/make repairs, no liability issues, insurance not needed or a garage to store vehicle.

Need a vehicle?, press a button and your custom ordered transportation will arrive.
Autopilot is on while you do the New York Times crossword puzzle on the way to your destination. Or do whatever the hell ya like.

This could be the future and lower carbon footprint when 1st you are asked if you will share a ride to lower cost to a close destination with someone else. Then it will be like "stupid shuttle" a defacto short bus picking up and dropping off passengers....one more loss of privacy and autonomy.

Or what happened in San Francisco when the lights went out. Autopilot cars stop right where they were when the juice turned off.

There needs to be a RED STOP button on our phones and computers.

AI is doing some great things e.g. medical genre, and look forward to even better advancements.

Everyday I turn on my phone and laptop knowing it will be different from the day before..

I just upgraded my MIL's computer from Win7 to Win11. She is 84. Her first comment ' it's so different '. My phone is blowing up all day long 'how do I do this?' Office 2007 to 2024. You get the drift... Not fun!

RED BUTTON please!
