That sucks. That was a pretty popular launch.
I went there once on the ling opener and the place was packed. We need more boat launches for trailered boats, not less.
Do you know the reason behind this?
I understand the West Beach parking situation as some of the lot was lost in a storm.

I do not. Actually, I posted this for the alert that is now absent from the list...
Do I understand correctly? There was a warning on the parks’ website regarding the algae in the lake and now that warning is gone?
I haven't driven off the island since sunday. I asked my wife for a report and she said she didn't think the barrels were there but she wasn't actually paying attention. So no real news. I might make a trip one way or the other tomorrow to get a look.
It was kind of a Goldilocks day….not too slow and not on fire….just right.
The fish had thick shoulders, lotsa energy, and beautiful fall colors
The otters survived the toxic algae and the eagles were ready and waiting to take your fish.
A nice day…kinda like hanging out with an old friend

Any browns? Much of a hatch?
I got two browns…..which is a lot for me…..I haven’t touched many browns out there in a while.
Hatch-wise no. Very little surface activity.
I was on the water about 6 hours and about the only stretch I did not fish was that along the highway. The only place where I saw some midges was in the corner - hard left from the launch.
Saw one indicator fisher….looked to be using chironomids…saw him get one fish…but I wasn’t paying that much attention to him and he left around noon.
Two rower/trollers and didn’t see them get anything….but again I wasn’t watching closely.
All mine were on a leech…either stripped, jigged, on the sink or the slow ascent.

Thanks to you Brian for not letting the shitty weather in the morning chase me home.@Wanative and I did our annual trip yesterday to toxic algae lake.
I’m happy to report we are both still alive.
Fishing was slow in the morning but things heated up after we changed tactics and flies.

I fished first for 2 hours with nary a sniff.
Actually I cast into trees and bushes simultaneously while hooking waterlogged branches and sunken logs!
It took us a while but when Brian took the bow position it was game on right away.
Of course it was!
Brian takes the bow and catches a nice rainbow on about his second cast or so.
That began a nice run of fish over the next couple hours.
It was awesome to see a guy who's probably caught more fish than half the forum combined get giddy over his personal best 21" slab of a brown trout.
After that Brian landed a couple more nice bows then I got the bow position again.
I managed 2 or 3 bows over the next hour on Brian's rod with the hot fly. My best fish was the fat 17.5" rainbow dressed in full spawning regalia! What a great fight, that fish hit that fly at warp speed as if he hadn't had a decent meal in months. No joke, super strong , multiple speedy runs from 40 feet in front of the boat into a semi- circle behind the stern.
Made the day for me for sure.
The quantity wasn't the best but the quality of the trout certainly made up for the quantity. I think we landed 7 fish but it was enough and a lot of fun.

My limited knowledge of Pass Lake is that it seems to be fickle. It can be good, very good, or not so good depending on the day of the week, or the hour of the day. Sometimes, after a few hours of nothing, I get hungry and go home, but I know that the trout are getting hungry too.... and that haunts me.
My wife volunteered me to do a thing on new years day. Saw this picture show up today from the Deception Pass Park Foundation (and somehow I made it in the picture in my Confluence hoodie) The hay fields next to Pass are owned by the state park, and previously were used for hay production but would need to be dug up and refreshed if that were to continue. With an eye to reducing the algae blooms in the lake the park instead has decided to plant trees and shrubs in the fields. So I spent new years morning planting loads of wetland plants in the wet ground.
The park manager was there and mentioned that they dug up some cores from the lake and the toxic blooms go back at least 400 years, but they've gotten a lot worse recently.

and interesting to hear/read about the core samples….guess it’s not simply run off and septic tanks or whatever
The holes have been there for months, but yeah the multitude of little sticks are new. Supposedly all of the fields will get the full treatment but it didn't sound like they were solid on what that timeline isGood on you
