What's your favorite mono running line & why?

I haven't seen the 50 Lb Hydrofloat available anywhere since I bought some back in Nov so I emailed P Line to see if it was discontinued. Unfortunately, it is. I'm wishing I had put some backing behind mine instead of just putting the whole spool straight to the arbor. Now I guess I'll have to peel it off and re-spool with backing so I can get a few more shooting lines out of it.
Did a search, and Hydro float came up for sale at Cabelas & amazon. Used it for years for float and jig fishing. Like you said got to fix those wind knots right away. Also this line picks up debris more than mono. Tried it for running line but i was too fumbled fingers to make it work.

Yes, the Hydrofloat is still available, just not in 50 Lb test. They still make it in 15, 20, and 30 Lb.

So I have been using Lazer Line in the 20 and 30 pound sizes. My buddy lost his whole Skagit head when his Lazer
Line broke after he hung up on some weeds. (I found it and recovered it the next day for him.). That got me thinking of how old my Lazer Line was so when I ordered a new Skagit head for myself, I ordered a spool of the 50 pound Lazer line. I fished it for the first time today and I am very impressed. It is big enough to grab and pinch and hold on to, and it seems less inclined to tangle. I didn’t even pre-stretch the line. And it still shot out great and long loops laying out on the water still shot well. I’m quite impressed.

I don't know much different but I like lazar

I have always preferred the feel and handling of coated running lines. However I was convinced that they are a distinct disadvantage when fishing rivers like the Clearwater last month. My fishing partner's 130' casts were getting grabs while my much shorter casts were being ignored until I found one pool where some fish were holding closer in. When the fish are few and far between, an angler needs every possible advantage to cover more water. My friends were using Varivas mono running lines. I heard that Varivas kinks and the kinks won't ever come out, causing yet more running line tangles. Another friend who had been using Varivas and reported having the kink problem said he recently switched to NAM mono running line, and that it is performing well for him. I ordered a spool of 40# NAM, and it arrived this morning. I'll get it on a reel pretty soon and test it out and see how it goes.

I like the SA absolute flat, I find it gets grippier after it soaks up water. 42 lb is on several reels, I am thinking I might try 35 next time. Lazar is fine by me, still have a reel spooled up with #35, but really I like the stickiness of the SA.

I don’t stretch, I just let it soak as I am working line out. I did not like slick shooter, too stiff and didn’t relax without stretching.

@G_Smolt , now that P-Line has discontinued the 50Lb Hydrofloat, what is your go to? I haven't been able to find a similar alternative, have you? Spooled up some 40Lb BG Solar and it's great once I get the memory worked out, but it sure is nice to be able to just work the Hydrofloat out without having to stretch it first.

...4 unused 90' running lines from the last 150yd spool, as well as the other 2 150yd spools I bought about 8 years ago.

Nope...haven't really looked.

There are a few coated spectra lines out there (fireline, etc) which have some similar properties, someone might have to check those out and report to the group

Monic used to supply these type of lines, my favorite, but the owner passed away and they are no longer available.
