NFR Finally making the plunge!

Cell phones are good for emergencies, as long as you turn them on...every time you leave the house at a minimum.
An I phone only makes sense if your other devices are Apple, otherwise a waste of money.

Face it, cat pictures, texting, phone calls, maps and surfing porn on the web (considering 35% of all data transfer is for porn by some studies) are pretty much all anyone does on a phone, spending a bunch more to do what are now rudimentary phone tasks seems odd.

Knock on wood so far I only needed a cell phone once. It was several years ago on a December night when my Dakota stopped running. I tried everything but no go, so with my pram and all my fly gear in the truck I didn’t want to leave it so for 45 minutes I was waving at cars hoping to use their phone. Finally a car pulled over and let me call. Turned out my fuel pump crapped out….its located inside the gas tank. My wife had me put her old phone in the glove box to call 911 but after a bit the battery charge was toast so bye bye cell phone!

I thought for sure this was a gag thread or a hilarious repost from 20xx?

The best part of a phone at hand is being able to settle any argument with a Google search and then begin 4 more with the dubious findings.

Cell phones can be 'dumb as a brick' like an old flip phone. They can be a very useful tool in everyday life. They can be life saver. They also can be a burden on life.

It is what you let it to be.

I don’t want to sound too negative but I’d like to know the numbers of accidents caused by cell phones. I’d bet it has passed dui’s since all ages can have one. The elementary school I retired teaching from had third graders with cell phones?? I don’t want to be a hypocrite and be that jerk driving while texting….. The best bumper sticker I saw said, “IPhone, Itext, Icrash!” My .02

If you had a cell phone, you could of answered your own question ---> 25% to 30% of crashes are caused by cell phone use. (About 1.5 million a year...)

Before choosing a plan talk to your neighbors, do some research, find out what carrier has the best coverage in your area. Where we live in the mtns Verizon is the go to, rare that I lose coverage.
Unless into photos and apps, why spend a grand on a cell phone..best deal for apple phone is the 16E which can be had for free when signing up with a plan.

The big 3 carriers have various speeds. Some are 4g and some have 5g/4g.

Alternative providers use the big 3 networks. So make sure your alternative provider is providing the coverage you need. Also, alternative providers, e.g. Visible and Boost may throttle back speed and priority of access for the lower price. No experience with customer service, USA vs. foreign, if that makes a difference...
