How CA still allows fishing under low Chinook returns

I know I'm beating a dead horse but I would like to see WDFW provide substantive evidence on how they have a more effective strategy of closing rivers completely than California's Dept of Fish and Game strategy of still allowing fishing for other species.

More interesting is Chinook salmon fishing in California was allowed on June 7-8, 2025, and again from September 4-7, 2025, with additional dates in late July and August if the harvest guidelines were not met. The fishing season is closely monitored to ensure sustainability. Fishing is great in Cali all over the state. Within a few miles of a major city we have trophy trout on average bigger than what you will catch on some very storied waters of Montana.

They won't show you the substantive evidence because it would embarass WDFW. When certain treaty tribal fish managers says, "Frog!", WDFW Director Susewind says, "How high?" And that is why we end up with recreational fishing regulations that don't make biological or ecological sense.
