Vintage Hardy

I’m not a hardy expert but I think it’s much newer than the 50’s. Maybe 70’s or 80's.
I would look for an earlier one that’s leaded not painted or one of the very newer anodized ones.
Think so? I have no idea, I'm just going on what the seller told me. Thanks for your tip. Hey, I saw your Montana fishing report, pretty darned cool! That's the land of my ancestors. I'm Bitterroot Salish.

I'm not sure when they went from leading to paint but the bump on the winding plate is what I was making my guess with. I like how the patina forms on the leaded reels and own a couple. I have also had some of the later painted ones. They don't seem to have the same quality to me and can somtimes peel paint and look not as good. I have a painted original Taupo that the paint started peeling when I left it wet or the water was ph'd wrong or something. The anodized reels hold up well and I think the quality stepped up with the machining. I think that reel you showed would fish great and the extra spools is a bonus.
Loved the Bitterrott visit.

Always wonderful to learn more, thank you.

Cliff,

If I was on the hunt for a cool reel to use with those rods, I might cast a wider net by posting in the Classic Rod Forum's classifieds section a "Want to Buy" describing what you are looking for, either specifically or generally. I've used that a couple times over the years and was pleasantly surprised at the offers I received, both for quality and for price. Good hunting! Ron

Thank you, Ron. I need to renew my login and password there, but I'll give it a go. Appreciate the tip.

Cliff maybe take a look at the red agate reels posted in the classifieds. Not perfect but would most likely pair up with your rods nicely

I agree.

I have, and fish all of those reels (all made by Young, but stamped for different vendors/retailers of the day). The red agate line guard was typically an option, and most were made without them. It is the cherry on top.
