Sage rods repair turnaround time

Just looking to hear from folks who have sent rods in recently for repair, like in the last year or so.
How long was the turnaround time to get your rod back?
Thanks for any input you can provide.

I bought a used X 7130 ten years ago; broke the tip on it last month. I was honest with them and said I wasn't the original owner. they let me register it and file for a repair anyway. The whole process, which included me taking about a week to get it shipped took a little over 5wks weeks and cost me $70.00.

I am going to try and get a tip replaced on my new Sonic I just got. The past comments are unsettling. I find it very hard to believe that us locals cant just drive over with a current model rod and get help on the spot. I will call tomorrow but I was already planning on making the trek up there to try and get it taken care of. We will see what happens.

Sent a sage rod in for repair on 813/25. Got a email on 8/20/25 confirming they received the rod , saying they will contact me when the rod has been looked at , thats been a week , no word yet . When I talked to them on the phone ,and told them where it was broke in the butt section , most likely no parts to repair ,and I would get the Sonic as a replacement , I believe it's $195 for the repair or a replacement rod .

The rod sent in was the VXP 9' 5 weight , 4 piece . I liked the rod , I don't think it was built for very many years , don't hear a lot about them . It was medium fast , and fished it a lot , I thought it was a decent dry fly rod . This Sonic if thats what I get will be a bit faster I am sure . I don't care either way , if they fix the VXP great .

Doesn't sound like too bad of turnaround this time of year . It's been two weeks so far with me , I would think if it's a different rod I'd get it shipped not long after they look at my rod ,and determine it can't be fixed , no parts . I wish it would be $70 ,but my rod being older is $195 .

I was particularly impressed that they fixed it for me even though I bought the rod used. I love the X taper and would buy a few more of them, but I'm afraid I'll sort of get 'kicked off the island' for support within my and the rods lifetime. I hope you get a good or at least reasonable response and turnaround on your VXP.

So here is your update. I am on Bainbridge Island right now. I just picked up the new guitar amp that I found on Facebook marketplace and I stopped by sage headquarters and it is indeed completely closed to the public. I then called Tacoma puget sound fly shop and asked Matt. What the current process is because the last time I broke anything. I dropped it off at avid angler, and they sent it in. It is not that way anymore period you have to go. Completely digital and thru the warranty website and system. From a locals perspective, this troubles me and angers me greatly. Because here we have a company selling a hyper expensive product preaching about buying local, but they're not able to support the local customer.
This sort of practice not having the ability to simply go up to an establishment leads to a complete disconnect between company and its local customers that it begs its business from so much.

Far bank has gone corporate and has turned their backs on their local customer base.

More important than corporate failings of local fly rod companies... let's see this new-to-you amp!

Update: I submitted my repair request and got my email with instructions. Now, keep in mind Farbank automated their warranty system and claim for a more efficient warranty/repair process. However, they half ass'd it by only automating the system to make things more convenient for themselves. If it was really about the customer the QR code would be programed differently so all you have to do is show the code to the UPS guy on your phone and they handle the rest.
So, I am gonna continue being a big fucken baby and unpack my printer here and get ready to tape some QR codes to my box. Cause in their details instructions they say to print, and tape the shit.

Please see the instructions below to send in your item.

  • If a local fly shop has submitted this repair on your behalf, no further action is needed. Simply keep this email and the repair confirmation number above for your records.
  • Please print two copies of this email. Place one copy inside your shipping box with your repair item, then tape the QR code from the second copy to the outside of your shipping box.
  • Far Bank does not accept warranty or repair items without a QR code. Packages without a QR code will be returned to the sender. Note: The QR code is not a shipping label.
  • Customers are responsible for shipping repair items to us and for retaining associated tracking information (save your shipping receipt). You may ship through the courier of your choice. Far Bank will always cover the return shipping.
  • If you are returning a rod, please return the ENTIRE rod, including the broken part(s) in a cardboard box or shipping tube. Please do not send in your original rod tube.
  • If you are sending a reel, please first remove line and backing and then package all reel components including reel frame and spool together in a shipping box.
  • If you are sending in a Limited Edition Sage SALT R8 / TARPON ONE one-piece rod, carefully cut or break the butt section 8 inches above the top of the cork handle (capturing the silk screen of the Sage logo and all rod model information) and send in only that bottom section. Use gloves and eye protection to perform this step.
Tape the QR code below to the exterior of your shipping box. This QR code is for our internal tracking.

PS Keep in mind, I wouldnt be bitching if this was a 99 dollar Okuma SST.

Here is a perfect example of a locally ran company. Transition Bikes in Bellingham. You are able to ride your bike right up for warranty/repair work and on top of that the MF'rs feed you.
Fuck you Farbank. I will probably still buy your products given my passionate feelings about buying local. But, If I cant come talk to you, you may as well be in Colorado.

I can see your frustration being local ,but I found the process pretty simple being hundreds of miles away . Talking to them on the phone ,they were very cordial ,and helpful as far as what is going to happen , in my case it's most likely going to be a different rod ,but either way I am okay with it .

The VXP is unrepairable , they don't have the repair parts . Got a new Sonic coming . The nice thing is I have my choice of any Sonic I wanted . I thought you got what you sent in ,or something comparable , not the case if it's a different model rod . Anyway being a bit 5 weight poor ,not really needing that 5 weight I decided to get the Sonic 697-4 . It's a 6 weight 9-6 4 piece with a fighting butt . Something I didn't have to fish out of a drift boat on bigger rivers , basically nymphing . The past three years fishing the Bighorn in April with a group of guys , I'd wished I had a bit longer rod ,and a fighting butt. This Sonic should fit the bill .

Should have it sometime next week , supposed to ship either today or Monday . I don't feel too bad giving $195 for the rod considering it's a $675 rod retail . I started this repair on August 13th , thats when I shipped the VXP to them . So them getting it ,and determining it was unrepairable , and getting the new Sonic , pretty close to a four week turnaround . Of course it would have been longer if a repair had been done I'm sure .

696 is money for the ‘Horn… extra reach for long bombs and big mends and backbone to fight. Happy that Sage gave you options (I sent a One in last week… see what they come back with) that being said, it’s a bummer that Far Bank has become more like TFO in their replacement but have a much bigger price tag. I know of an outfit in MT with beautiful green sticks at the same price point that loves making new sections and additional sections for a reasonable fee. A certain CO outfit will do the same as well.

Maybe it is just time to accept the fact Sage is no longer a viable and supportive company associated with supporting the customer. Add it to the list of other companies doing the same.

Complaining just adds to frustration. Not buying their products will/may get their attention.

I have found Sage/Farbank to be a great company to work with. So much so that I never have hesitated to buy their products because I do not have to worry about them doing the right thing if I have a problem. As for rod repairs, some other companies rods - once they stop selling the rod if it breaks they frustratingly will not fix the rod but “upgrade” you to a newer rod which does not have the same action. My experience with sage has been that they go above and beyond to try to be able to fix older rods, some even decades old.
Mike.
