What have you done for your boat lately?

I paid 10K, and I suspect that sounds a bit outrageous,
not at all, you got a really nice boat package at a fair price, and factor in nobody is offering a 16' fiberglass tiller high sided V hull these days, too expensive to build, why manufacturers went to tin.

maybe you already mentioned, but the motors from the pic, look like they are not overly used, or worn ? did they have an hour meter one could trust ?
The 40hp Honda has 170 hours logged in. I do like the 40, but that little 8hp OB… while older, it runs like a Swiss watch. Sounds so good!
Both are in very nice condition.

I didn’t know, but the manufacturer rarely offer power trim on these tiller controlled, mid-size outboards. The Honda has hydraulic assist tilt and it will lock at infinite positions it seems, so that’s nice, but I will miss power trim while running the boat. My 40hp eTech had power trim.

I’ll post a photo when I get my guide pedestals and Tempress seats together.

My bracket for the bow mount motor had the forward most screws starting to back out and strip. There is a lot of force and vibration on this bracket, by use and just trailering in general. I should have known better and done this from the start on the bow bolts. I made them through bolts and feel good about it now.
I took some 2" aluminum pipe and cut a couple quarter sections to make washers that fit the radius of the lip. I like how that turned out. I also added one more "kickstand" to distribute the load. It feels very sturdy now.

This turned out really nice. Great idea on the pipe sections.

Can you share a picture of your boat? I’m curious as to what you have!

new bearings, hubs, wheel and tires showed up late afternoon yesterday (etrailer order shipped for free and arrived cross country in 4 days), wanted to fish today so went to work.
So East Lake this morning, the Callibaetis hatch went insane around 11 am, took a few average on a Para Adams, then switched to a midge tip and took a few more including one beauty on a Rickards.
Couldn't imagine not having a boat, even if it was a damn inner tube.

I have to agree. It’s good to have options, too. I washed the winter and spring scuzz off this one. I wanted to make sure all my human powered options are available while the little 9.9 is in the shop for carb work. I need to get the canoe out! If only there were a black water river with sunnies and bass nearby…rope swings…actually I’m glad there’s no cottonmouths around here.IMG_4300.jpeg

one summer, pre-teens on the Russian River at Uncle's pad, Cuz and I started flipping the canoe over as we floated downstream just before we came in sight of all the beach hangers at Hacienda Beach...so we'd be in the airspace as it floated by, hanging from the sat bars, banging on the inside of the hull and yelling 'help, help'...oh the commotion, including a few 'rescues' that turned into pissed off chew-outs...and then one float the canoe got flipped over and there was Uncle just glaring at us with a hard stop to our fun..

The 16’ fiberglass skiff came to me with no electronics, and really no wiring foundation. Our local shop in Port Townsend, Westside Marine, did a great job installing:
- Battery isolators,
- 4-switch fuse panel
- 9” Simrad Sonar/Plotter
- bilge pump
It’s all mounted to a piece of starboard, and screwed into the gunnel shelf. Makes for a clean install.

Took the boat out yesterday and ran all around PT bay fishing, crabbing and exploring. Great dry ride.

The past week has been spent getting the Whitehall up to snuff. I doubt anyone's done any maintenance for decades so I did a lot of sanding and prepping and teak oiling and now she's looking pretty spiffy! I also swapped out a couple of the original Scotty rod holder mounts for newer ones that accommodate the fly rod holders.

The Walker Bay on the right is also a new-to-me garage sale find with a sail kit and inflatable collar. I gotta stop doing this to myself.

There were 35 years of dings and scratches in the gelcoat so I focused on the biggest ones and made my first attempt at gelcoat repair using one of those kits from LFS. I will likely have to do another round before I sand again. If it goes well, the next step is using my $25 garage sale polisher/buffer (bottom right) to shine 'er up inside and out and then she'll be ready for the bigtime with the new 6hp.

What a neat looking boat. I was a wooden boat junkie back in the day and love the lapstrake look.

Just this morning I saw a true/wooden lapstrake about the size of yours wasting away in an alley in the Columbia neighborhood.

For just a moment I fantasized about taking it home and giving it the love it needed….thankfully I quickly came to my senses and kept on walking 😏

I'm quite happy that the only wood on the Whitehall is on the rails and seats. I've dealt with true wooden boats and that's a labor that I don't love.

I'm also very proud of myself for responding to an ad for a Fishcat Panther and then deciding I really don't need another vessel. I already had a Fishcat Panther and only used it once in two years.

I bet your happy with it(y) Only a couple pieces of wood to maintain AND after 35 years you only have some gelcoat gouges to deal...what's not to love. Looks like a great boat.

And once you get it back in the water, I learned:

- you can launch at Gooseberry Pt for $25.....$5 for in & out and $20 to park your rig & trailer. I was scoping it out on a -1.5 tide day at it did not appear launching would be a problem. Guy in the 'office' said no parking available on 'commercial opener' days.

- the Birch Bay launch was very tide dependent....on the same -1.5 tide day you'd be traversing about 100' of flats.

-have yet to check out Blaine...but I'll let you know (y)
