I've had the best luck with Schroeder's para hopper, but calf tail and turkey quill don't currently appeal to me. What has worked for you?

I've been fishing muddled stuff. Eats floating, sunk, and a lot more fish stripped back than other flies I've tried.

I tried a lot of different hoppers while fishing YNP and the one that worked the best was a bit of a shocker. A Joe's Hopper worked when the others did not. A plain old ordinary Joe's Hopper was the ticket and it is now what I use for all my hopper fishing.

This fly has worked well for me on east side waters. It's a variant of a Foamulator. Floats really well, but when it doesn't it works well drowned also. Lately I have been fishing it a lot with a bead head soft hackle about a foot below it, with great results.

We sometimes will see how many fish we can take on one fly. They can get pretty tore up and still work...

I tie the unsinkabeetle. It is a generic all-purpose high float beetle/hopper pattern. I tie tan and green varieties. Another easy tie that catches fish.

Good use for the split nails...jassid still works.
