Life of the Party
I've got a few up my sleeve...I'll start with my favorite. Everyone knows that balancing an egg on end is impossible..right? Well here's a trick. Take a raw egg and shake the living heck out of it for at least a half hour. I mean really shake it hard. This will center the yoke. With a delicate touch you can now balance that egg on a flat surface. Try it it's fun. I used to hide the "shaken egg" in with the other dozen in a carton....This makes it much more magical. All the other campers will be trying and failing and you will be the only one that can do it........The potential for gambling with this trick should not be underestimated. I'm certain that other forum members must have some tricks up their sleeves. Let's hear em.

Boil water in a paper bag placed on the fire!

This reminds me of a chapter from An Encyclopedia Brown detective book I read when I was a child.

Some very impressive magic tricks can be done with a single, long black human hair. Around the campfire this hair is quite invisible and can be used to "levitate" cards or pencils etc.. If you are telling a "ghost story" to the kids, you can scare the heck out of em from just a couple of seconds using your "invisible string". No need for fancy magic...just make it look like something moved.

Solar ignition, is almost like magic. "Char cloth" is an easy google search. Char cloth makes solar ignition crazy easy. A magnifying glass takes less that ten seconds to make an ember. You can also use a water bottle to ignite the char cloth ( "Smart water" bottles works the best). Once the ember is placed into a "birds nest" the fire is started.... With nothing more than a bottle of water, some char cloth and some tinder.

I'd like to add., char cloth can easily be made with a fire (or stove) using an Altoilds tin and some cotton rags., but an alternative to this is a small piece of cotton, vigorously rolled around in white campfire ash. This is known as "ash cloth" and can be just as flammable as char cloth. "I bet you I can start a fire....By just using this water bottle, my t-shirt, some ashes and some tinder." Winner winner chicken dinner.

I was very young when I learned my first card trick. A deck of cards can be a source of amazement. Once I was on the back deck of a boat with the famous actor Christopher Plumber...we were both bored. I pulled out a deck of cards, did my favorite trick and he was "entertained". I broke all the rules, and showed him how it was done. I think of him every time I see the Sound Of Music. He was a very good man.

I once had a baby-sitter that could make a penny disappear. Everyone knows how to snap your fingers. He put the penny in-between his thumb and his middle finger, held his arm out straight and snapped his fingers. The penny disappeared (into his shirt sleeve). I was amazed. He then lowered his arm and let the penny fall into his hand... and produced it from behind my ear. With a little practice this can be a powerful illusion.

I do that one (with a dime). Is a good trick!

I feel like this thread is going to be one big violation of the magician's code. Not sure if that's a good thing?

"Magic" using string is also a campfire favorite. A couple hours of watching you tube and a few hours of practice (in front of a mirror) and you will have a couple of "tricks up your sleeve" that you will have forever. In fact, I started this thread because I am working on a string trick involving a gold ring. It is called the "Clifton ring move". It is simple, but has many variations. My goal is to amaze my 6 year old nephew..and maybe some inebriated adults, with just a string and a gold ring.

I can open a bottle of wine with a shoe.
I can open a bottle of beer with my eye brow….hint open it first earlier. As a kid I used it to trawl alpha idiots at parties who’d then try the same to predictable effect…. ‘I’m macho man…’ as the late great Richard Prior would say.

Your inside the camper. You pull out a book of matches. Tear one off. Mark one side with a pen designating it as "heads". Now toss it up like you were flipping a coin and let it land on the table. After a couple of tosses and a couple of beers .... declare that you can toss the match up and it will land on its side! Bet a beer on it...... then bend the match in the middle to form a 45 degree angle..toss it up.. and it will indeed land on its side.
