where you at?There are a couple SD boats that I’ve been looking at. That’s a new one but looks good. Just hard to deal with tire kicking from literally the other side of the country.

As close to Canada as SD is to Mexico.where you at?
I looked for a boat the whole 2nd half of 2024.My human powered fleet is pretty much complete but I’m limited in range. I had access to lots of boats for work but that’s done and even then, I couldn’t use them for personal/fishing reasons. Very few of my friends have boats and/or offer up boat time, so it’s looking like it’s up to me. I’ll be taking the uscg 25-100 ton captain license course/test this fall.
All things considered: a boat is a much better midlife crisis purchase than a flashy car.
Time will tell… seems everything I can find is very overpriced compared to even a few years ago.
I’m definitely open to aluminum. There are a few Bayrunner Baja out there but those bows look tough for a bow mount trolling motor. If I found a Lifetimer, Silver Streak, or similar CC (anyone have experience with Marlon?) I’d surely consider. I have found aluminum to be colder and bouncy compared to glass, and most of the aluminum boats in the size range are DC/windshield style which I’m not as interested in.I looked for a boat the whole 2nd half of 2024.
My 2 observations-
1) Boat prices are ridiculously high these days
2) There aren't that many good ones out there
Even with a boat to sell (sold for twice what I paid for it in 2015!) I had to reset (aka lower) my price range,. That also meant resetting the size and features. Which reset my targets.
I notice all 3 boats you've posted are glass. Are you open to an aluminum CC? You've been in a lot of boats and probably have your preferences, but if you're open to aluminum boats you'll have more targets. Edit- and better for your 3500 lb towing restriction.
btw, this was posted 3 hours ago. Pretty sweet looking old boat. https://www.facebook.com/share/16QaTybtPv/
Probably too heavy...
I tried to find comps on that boat and there are only a few in the country available at all. One with a recent repower that needs a little TLC and no trailer for $20k in Boston, and another with a recent repower for $27,500 in Boston as well.Talk me out of repowering the Outrage 17 in my first post. I finally talked to the seller and from the photos and description of use it’s probably the cleanest example of that particular hull out there. If it had a 4s I’d be driving to get it tomorrow.
That’s probably the right approach, but it really would be a pretty sweet boat with a new Suzuki on the back! There’s one in West Van with a 30yo mercury 2s. It checked out the transport costs from the east coast and it’s ~$14k, so nope.
I really like the design of the hull but I think I’m going to have to pass… again. Just like backcountry skiing: if it’s not a screaming yes it’s a no.
You’re not helping!!!! I’m going to continue to back away slowly and try to only wonder “what if?” a little….That’s probably the right approach, but it really would be a pretty sweet boat with a new Suzuki on the back!
He's right you know. You’re not helping!!!! I’m going to continue to back away slowly and try to only wonder “what if?” a little….
If someone sponsors the engine I’ll buy the boat. He's right you know.
nice boat and good decision...lotta folks lose time on the water waiting for that perfect used boat deal, whereas purchasing a good hull with a working engine get's those fly rods bent now, not later.Following this thread- have a 1999 key west center console with a 70hp Johnson of the same year. I feel that a repower is inevitable, but I’m hoping to put it off as long as possible.

holy crap. any major problem on that boat, and hopefully you can eject out the back.and what's more fun than customizing an older, sound hull...this 16' Whaler was converted in the late 60's by George Greenough to run from Santa Barbra out to Channel Island surf spots, which here he's approaching.
