this fly was on fire

I only go Bohupowah these days! Once you experience the SUCCESS of a Bohupowah, you'll be sold. Won't go back!!!!

Sorry, the explanation mark made my comment look like a hook length. I meant 2X tippet, throw that 4X in your midge box! ;-)

Better tyers than me should weigh in, I think the longer the shank the more "leverage" the fish has to get off the hook.... but maybe my thinking is off.

Good luck!!
done! lesson was when using 4x for a midge, upon deciding to tie on a size #10 change the tippet!

I like the "sparkle covered with hackle" formula for my flies lately. I think hiding some of the flash works well. I tie my soft hackles with a flashabou body ribbed with soft hackle. Muted, but noticeable at certain angles ....

A lot of my buggers look similar to this. Yours, is a nice tie and will no doubt catch fish "but" the hackle fibers appear much stiffer than the gifted fly. I have never really been satisfied with my buggers for that reason and have never been able to purchase hackle wispy enough to suit my quest. So, instead I have been using brahma buggers which seem to come alive in the water.
