Bamboo fling 2025

well, shit, if @J Watrous is gonna build some shit, how's about an 8' 9wt?

I'm def following, not sure if I'll be able to make it up there, but would be fun as hell if I can, especially if someone's got some heavy (er) weights!

I've got an 8' 8/9wt and a 7'9" 11wt glass that totally rocks if anyone cares to cast (plus my old standby Bandit 7'9" 10wt)

I am looking at building a two-piece Goodwin Granger Deluxe 7’ 4wt taper (not scalloped or hollow) because I *believe* it’s the one my grandfather fished and my uncle took when he passed. Can’t verify because I don’t have access to the rod. Is that a good taper?
The taper you are considering is called the Granger 7030. I used to own a WM Granger Victory "7030". It was a pleasant rod to cast and fish and from what I can tell it is very popular with the many fans of Granger rods. I ended up selling it because I have a Granger 7633, the 7-1/2' rod which is pretty much my ideal...three piece and IMO is the easiest casting rod I own. You'd love either rod.

Thank you.

Can a ‘boo-curious fella come? I don’t own a fishable bamboo rod but aspire to and also aspire to build my own someday and would love to learn more about them.
No.. not unless he brings Herbie.. you can be Herbie's guest.. and Bills camera... just saying..

Oh on a different note, I've been talking to David Reid in Idaho and have invited him out to this event! He's interested and will check his schedule.. I want one of his spey rods..

Let me know when you have a day you can break free. I’ll pm my contact info.
Mike, can I stop by sometime? Would love to see your setup. I've been to Sweetgrass in MT years ago, shortly after they left Winston, so a long time ago. I'll PM my info!

Cheers Bill!

Any reason we can't combine this with the may 17 event? Expose new folks to bamboo while you're at it.

Not all of us can make it down there, but it is a nice idea! If I do end up getting to go, I'm happy to bring my boo rods, but at this point if I get work then I won't be able too!

Hi guys!
This is my first post here. Para_Adams (Ron Paport) and Dave Westburg are friends.
May 3rd is my 70th Birthday and casting bamboos would be a fun way to celebrate! 😊
Jack, so glad you will join us!!! I'm looking forward to adding your bamboo rod knowledge and craftsmanship abilities to our great mix of locals who love classic bamboo rods.

Jack, it's great to have you as a part of this group. Be fun to see you on the 3rd. Make sure that the UW professor knows about our fling as well.
