Had my side passenger mirror stolen a few weeks ago in front of a brewery here in Redmond! Kia of Kirkland wanted $381 for a replacement mirror and Napa Auto Parts wanted $271.

I got a replacement mirror from EBay for $57 + tax! Had to buy a set of metric sockets for about $18! Installed it myself with some help from this site! Thanks!

I can't imagine what a sick mind it takes to steal a rear view mirror! That takes petty theft to a new low. Glad you got it fixed without shelling out the big bucks. I guess the market for catalytic converters has fallen off.

I have heard that stealing taillights out of new F-150's is becoming a cottage industry. It seems replacements can be $1200-$1500! I need a new taillight on my Ram trucks but haven't checked the price yet. Kinda miss the old days when you could buy a new bulb for 35 cents.....

Yes and the way it was broken off I doubt they could even sell it for anything! I'm just glad they didn't break the windows, although they messed up the door! Bunch of sick people out there! They also hit a van at a business nearby but probably didn't get anything. Most likely drug addicts and if i had to guess it would be meth! Sad, but true!
 
Back in the 80’s, someone stole both of the inside door panels on a Camaro I owned while it was parked in the U district.
They were even nice enough to lock the car afterwards. I got in and reached over to close the door and I’m like WTF! Then I looked over and noticed the passenger side panel was gone as well.

Years ago i had my catalytic converter stolen off my Toyota Tacoma in front of my apartment in Woodinville! I saw bolts under my truck and realized what happened immediately! It sounded great though, and was something like $300 or a bit more to replace! Sucked but it could have been worse, they left the sensor which saved me a lot!
 
mid 80's, Dodge conversion van parked in the driveway at our coastal home, got up to go to work, turned on the lights, nothing, got out and walked around...someone had stolen the rear taillight housings, front grill and headlight housings as well. Took most of a day of scouring the big junkyards to replace the missing parts for under $100.
Likely not the only elder here who made the occasional junkyard visit back in the day for parts on the cheap.

In the early 70's I was going to school at WWSC. I would come home in Burien for orthodontist appointments. One night my car was dismantled. Stereo, speakers, tapes, carburetor and manifold, radiator and distributor, battery all gone. Insurance paid for everything plus my labor.

I came home a month later and it happen again! Insurance was not happy, for sure. I had my local friends keep an eye out and they found who did. I called the cops and we all went over to his house. His father said 'my son was home that night' and then asked 'what night was it?'

The cops and I left. The cop mentioned that local justice happens. A couple of weeks later his engine seized. I was in Bellingham at the time---> not me!

I can swear on a stack of bibles in court I do not know who, what, when, where nor why it happened. Shit happens!

Now back to regular conversations.

I drive a fairly new Ford Ranger with a camper shell. I cringe every time I park it to go fishing. It just screams (old guy truck with lot's of valuable stuff inside). I often see broken glass from previous theft victims, which does not help. I shopped around a bit for an alarm system (it has one, but only sounds off after the doors or windows are broken. Apparently you can get a "perimeter" alarm system that will "sound off" (first with a warning) if someone is within a certain distance (adjustable). The company in Burlington said they were about 6 hundred bucks and they were selling like hot cakes. Unfortunately, the best way to protect your vehicle is to make it more difficult to rob than the vehicle parked nearby, and I believe that these "perimeter" alarms are capable of accomplishing that.

I have a trunk cougar! She's from Kirkland and kind of hot! She goes ape shit crazy if someone comes to near the car! 😆
 
So.. after doing some shopping... those perimeter alarms did not seem to work. They were popular for a short time but now are no longer considered effective. Apparently the Trunk Monkey is our best option.
 
When I get back on my feet (literally), have to hunt for the passenger side mirror housing, Dealer quote was $800+! Heated, blind spot indicator, folding 4-way mirror positioning and turn signal. Whatever goes on an older Ford Explorer Limited. Found it on Amazon waaaaay cheaper! Then let my former neighbor who owns a body shop swap it out with the broken one. Carport post did the damage, have learned to ignore Ms Kravitz when backing into my assigned carport spot.
