Tenkara (The Kara?)

I make my own with all bamboo and bamboo and fiberglass/graphite tip sections. I use mine in lakes looking for bigger fish than in streams. I usually fish with an indicator and chironomids/micro leeches. It’s a fun challenge! Don’t know until you try it!

I used mine on some small streams for a couple years. It’s a little different, but seemed to work pretty well. It was nice to have a simpler rig and be carrying less on the water

Well I can see why I get no responses. For being so simple, what a pain in the ass.

I bought an Tenkara USA 10' Iwana rod years ago! I love it for small streams, like the forks of the Snoqualmie and stuff up high on the Skykomish, like the Tye and Foss..

I usually start with the Tenkara or my 6' 2wt 4pc that I built. I love that it's easy to carry the tenkara rod, it fits in my wading rain jacket or even my sling pack. A small box of flies is all that you need.

It's easy enough to learn, and it should come with a floating line at least. You can buy other lines and I shoot for a line about 1.5 times the length of the rod. You do have to be careful when extending the rod and putting it away. Many newbies break the tip right away.

It's easy to cast, just a slow short cast! I'm sure there are plenty of good videos, but I just learned by fishing it and from a friend who got one at the same time I did. Don't overthink it!

I usually use a small dry or nymph.. I have tied a few tenkara flies and they're easy to tie, but small flies challenge me these days with my eyes and the neuropathy I have. Don't get old! LOL!

After starting out fishing fixed line rods and now owning a few western rods I can confidently say the ability to keep your line off the water makes a huge difference in fooling fish. It can limit you on bigger rivers but is definitely the most efficient technique for small to medium sized rivers. I am sure that Brian have you all the info that you need to know 👍

You will have so much fun.
Fished Tenkara a lot here in BC. Sold my Tenkara rods several years ago. Used to be my fishing option while biking and Tenkara flies were my first flies I tied. Love the simplicity.

I started fishing that concept in Europe. With bamboo stick, line and bobber. I was 5 years old. :)
