Post your first fish of 2025 here

Bout time you got on the board Pat………way to go!
Yeah, Steve, it is. Back before I retired and before we decided to do some snow birding I would often be out at The Warm Water Ditch before dawn on New Years Day drifting a super secret fly (the heebee jeebee) in the spring water...... back in the days when Lenore was open all year, I fished it on New Years morning (if it wasn't frozen over).

Mid-February on the Hoh.
To my absolute surprise, I hooked into 3 in the same run and landed 2. My quota for 2025 winter steelhead was met on day 1. I’ve since spent another 6 days swinging on the OP without a grab and it's been worth every cold, wet minute.

Despite a year around season here in SW Montana, things don't really lend themselves to much catching until late March or early April. Finally made my way to one of my favorite rivers--the Grande Orifice. Levels were very fishable after a week-long cold snap. Several nice browns came to hand over 3 hours on the river. Got a little windy by noon and this old body was getting tired from the first trip of the 2025 season.

Mugshot of the first one this season.

Although not the first, this one was the best of the morning.

Going to take a while for the Grande Orifice to green up this Spring.

Spent a few days chasing bonefish in Hawaii the last couple of weeks. Blew a bunch of shots but connected with this cigar wrasse

Felt good to finally get out to the river for the first time in 2025, especially after being pretty sedentary this past month. Hooked something fast and strong not long before landing this one but it broke me off in heavy current.

As an aside, I recently tore my ACL and immediately reached out to @Herkileez about a Riverstick wading staff. He got one out to me quickly and I got to try it out today. The water was high so didn’t actually do much wading but it certainly gave me some confidence navigating riverside logs, rocks, etc. on my wobbly knee. It’s solid and will be great once I’m back to fishing post surgery.
