Not all are closing, but a good portion are. My local is and it’s a shame too…always busy, even with some poor stocking/inventory choices made by the upper management.

Ps: the news is about 3 weeks old and the sales have been going on during this time.
 
3 weeks ago you were correct. When talks broke down this weekend with a potential buyer, everything is being closed.

Add small tools, tapes, adhesives, storage, indoor planters, not to mention the fabrics my wife and I have used to make quilts, curtains, pillow covers, cushion covers, etc.
So sad, they are one of a kind...when I get notice of their closing sale in Bend, will fill up a cart.
 
My wife is fairly bummed about Joanns closing. She mostly hates the place, but it's also the only physical fabric store left in our area and I suspect she goes there multiple times every month. I've bought foam for poppers, etc from them. But while I know how to sew (grandmother made sure of that), I only do it when necessary as I don't find it an enjoyable hobby. I do some knitting in the cold/rainy slow-fishing months, but Joann's yarn is blegh and I'd rather shop at one of the independent yarn places in town.

I have always been skeptical of the Joann business model (coupons 100% of the time and every single thing from low quality china factories), but I'm somewhat surprised that nobody is buying them, it's not like there's much competition in the space. They are the only game in town for many many people. That usually means there's an opportunity for someone to come in and right the ship, even if it means raising prices to regain profitability.

There are other craft supply stores in my area, but JoAnn has the best sales.
She'll be missed!
 
Possibly a help for the small specialty Mom (& Pop) shops that sell specialty yarns; I like "Trendsetter Aura", and higher end fabics. When travelling with Mrs Brian, she has them all mapped out.

Stopped by today. A lot of empty shelves, but picked up the last spool of 26lb Beadalon coated, knottable wire for walleye/pike leaders at 30% off.
Also, a bunch of new foam colors. A few sheets of shimmer foam! I use glitter foam sometimes (I've had good luck with gold for SRC), but the glitter wears off quickly - this looks more integrated to the foam. Very fishy looking. All these 8×11" sheets for ~$12:

I haven't been in a long time, but have been many times to see what was available. Beads are also cool to get, and can save you a lot of $$. The foam sheets have always been cool too.. it's sad to see it go, but brick and mortar retail are in big trouble! With large retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target and Costco the small ones just don't have much of a chance anymore.

I was in Barnes & Noble yesterday, for a book one of the therapists I interviewed with recommended. For that big store, I only saw 2 employees.. I'm sure there were more, in the back, but not many.

I've seen the same at Target and Fred Meyer. I've been told by managers that they can't open more registers because of call outs or staffing issues.. Grocery is exactly the same. There are many jobs out there, but they just don't pay enough, unless you tough it out for many years! I did work 4 months at the Safeway in Duvall, and now really appreciate all of those people who work hard in grocery. I still keep in contact with a few in management at the store. I was in the meat and seafood department, and cleaned up after the meat cutters 4 nights a week. It's a young mans game, I did learn a lot though! I can wash dishes faster than ever now! LOL!
