Bird flu and tying supplies

I think this may get worst before it gets better.

Do you think we will see it have an effect on supplies? Pricing?

Time to stock up? 😁😁😁

I agree with you about potentially getting worse before it gets better.

Spreads bird to bird easily. Now spreading to cows. It is being found in raw cat food and cats are getting it. Veterinarians that work with animals are getting it.

Cooking it seems to eliminate it. Are feathers cooked?

Edited to add: Not sure how it is going to affect bird hunting. Most likely ---> not in a good way. Same may apply to animal hunting e.g. deer....

Note: staying away from eggs discussion, and Politics ---> on purpose...

Yeah this ain't meant to be political. More just about supply and demand and discussion on what may be headed our way.

I think genetic breeders can take expensive steps to isolate their birds from wild birds that chicken factory farms can't or won't take.

But game birds may become more rare, and their feathers/skins more expensive.

I'm more worried about bird flu getting better at human to human transmission, though.

People need to pay attention to this.
It is not an US issue. Unfortunately it is a global issue. Bird flu is changing/adapting. That is what it does. Transmission may only increase. We will first see it with the supply of the feathers we covet. Then how it affects our hunting endeavors for game and birds. If it progresses, not a good thing for humanity IMHO.

All the more reason for a swap and shop! All my items are pre-bird flu.

Ditto .... who would have ever thought grade 1 fly tying feathers would become The Thing for putting in your hair ... I sure never saw that one coming

As long as it doesn't start affecting bucktail, I'm good.

Has anyone seen price increases at all yet? I'm just getting started in tying, so I don't know what normal should look like.

I've got poultry farmers in my family back east. Big operation. They've had to kill off 75000 laying hens and cremate the remains under state supervision. Then get monitored for 60 days for possible cross contamination. So far so good for the human side of things, but for them it's a total loss of income.

Their partner farm just down the road raises turkeys, pea hens, and guinea fowl. Not a one of those flocks had been affected as of mid Feb.
