NFR 2025 Gardening Growing Thread

Non-fishing related
Yeah overdue starting a new thread. Not much news other than i have dug up all our begonia bulb and put in the greenhouse . Raked swept the balance of leaves . Digging another yard of my compost tomorrow and planning greenhouse starting dates . Still have a lot of parsley and oregano growing and shallots , winter stuff all growing swiftly. Favas and biennial broccoli from Sept planting about 30” tall. Temps very very mild . Lowest temp here so far since winter began is about 38-40 degrees. Garlic is taller than usual for January. Narcissus , and other bulbs on there way. Have made a soil amendment list. Will get it in the ground/ raised beds in the next month- 50 lbs cottonseed meal, 25lbs kelp meal, 12 lbs bonemeal , some worm castings(12. Lg bags) maybe ght grab 30 lbs of alfafa pellets. Happy gardening!

A couple of days ago, I walked by the remains of my tomato and lettuce garden and saw that the red mesclun lettuce had really taken off and began forming heads (which it hadn't done in the summer). I figured I'd better harvest before the upcoming freezes. I had some on my dinner salad tonight.

A pleasant surprise since I had given it up for dead.

My pear-apple tree is showing new growth already... YIKES! Way too early!

I would welcome an explainer about setting up 5 gallon bucket gardening, with the automatic watering under them, using a gutter or half pipe, and a bulb valve. I think there was good info at the old place .

A bit early here. By mid-April things will loosen up. Onion sets ordered and will arrive in April. 2025 seed selection arrived and ready for the spring/summer season. Got to be patient.View attachment 140442

Yours is kinda looking like mine...

I am left with thinking about how to raise chickens with automated watering and feeding for when we're gone for a month, just tell the neighbors to go get eggs every couple of days. Maybe even a motorized "tractor coop"...

Going to start seeds in a month3rd week of March. Tomatoes, and some early spring crops, kuroda carrots, arugula etc, not really planning just guestimating, not all psycho like I used to be for 40 years or so about gardening. Simplifying

The way things are going here in Bozeman, am considering planting some frozen pea for Spring.

Our yard is not conducive to growing much of anything too much shade. So instead, I am busy building freestanding cedar planter boxes. I’ll be focusing on herbs and beets and carrots. Glenda had fun with growing some tomatoes last year so she will probably do that again. My grandsons show up tonight for a weeklong visit and they will be helping me building planter boxes. Now, if I could just figure out how to grow eggs. 😄
