My 55" Panasonic plasma TV is having electronic issues caused by the cyclone storm's power surge.

Now I need to buy a TV that is smarter than me. I am looking at the Hisense U8N series. Anyone have experience with them?

Other recommendations?

OLEDs are pretty resistant to burn-in. But these fireplace things you can put up don't really have any static images. Even the bricks have changing lighting effects to keep things moving.
 
We replaced two of our free-standing wood stoves with those electric ones. They are very life like.
 
We currently have a Hisense Roku 58R6E3 and have had a couple Hisense models prior to this one. I don't know anything about the TV you have under consideration, but would not hesitate to buy another Hisense TV.

If it matters to you the Sony Bravia 8 is highly rated by multiple folks doing that along with the higher end LG OLED TVs, and they are not made in China. Hisense is a Chinese brand.

Yeah when I did my research for new TVs when we got our two new ones a couple years ago, it seemed like Sony was head and shoulders above the others. I didn't make the recommendation to go Sony though because last I looked, there was a pretty big price gap between the Sony and the Hisense models. I'm glad we went with the Sony stuff though.

We've been a Samsung family here for the better part of 15 years. Until K and I got married, I'd never owned a TV.

Right now our 56 inch (I think) is pushing 7 years and hasn't given us any reliability issues. (Yeah, we tend to keep things long term)
 
Technology changes so fast. So do prices. This year's hot technology is next year's outdated and old stuff. So in this case, I usually buy last year's technology that meets my needs. That and being on a fixed income where inflation is being felt everyday, I try to save where I can.

The Hisense meets my needs; smart TV, bright picture (since my TV faces South towards windows), glare resistant screen, decent speakers so I do not need a sound bar, and reasonable refresh rate for sports. It will not be used for gaming. It is QLED and is 50% to 75% less than OLED technology. Should last me for as long as I will live. (my plasma was 13 years old).

Had a 42" Samsung for 20 years with zero problems and still an awesome picture. We wanted to get a smart tv so we went with Samsung again.......42' QLED.
Beautiful picture and it is indeed SMART.
I recommend Samsung.

We just got Samsung S95D to replace 15 year old Samsung, BTW which still works great and is moving to the basement. Went with this larger one because (bigger is better?) it is in a bright room and the really is non reflective. Much better for daytime viewing. Sometimes smart gets in the way as it brings up menu screen before settling in. Pair with Roku, all good.
 
I just figured out that I'm not techie enough to read and understand this thread. We got a new TV and sound system close to 10 years ago I suppose, and I barely know how to use it. Had to have Desco send a kid out to program the remote with his laptop. If I don't know what I'm missing perhaps I don't need to upgrade, yet.
 
Had Samsung for years.
Recently replaced our 8 year old 65" Samsung with a 75" Sony Bravia based on positve ratings/reviews on larger TV's.
Quite content with it.

My plasma in the great room came from the Scott family at Desco.
They have been around a long time.
 
Last TV we bought was about 20 years ago at Costco. Hardly use it. Tend to watch tv on our computer screens now. No cable, no antenna.
