Traveling East

Just Hatched
Hey all, I'm hoping to drive east from Seattle next weekend to camp and hopefully get into some fish. Wondering whats on what now and general areas to check out. I'll be camping out of my rig and am a fan of small water. I know its early season but you never know

I AM NOT asking for your hidden gems, just a general area or river system to fish. I don't go east much so any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to make a habit of hitting the dry side this spring and summer.

Pm's welcome, you can count on my discretion

Cheers and thanks much.

Very few rivers are open east of the mountains before Memorial Day weekend, let alone small water, so be sure to check the Regs. I’d fish the Yak system or Rocky Ford. Off the top of my head, other than that, you pretty much only have the Columbia, parts of Crab Creek and then the (Spokane, oops, which is also closed. Thanks @Old406Kid!)

thank you sir thats a good start!

Try not to leave to much stuff in your rig when your out fishing. I hate to say it, but it’s pretty gangster out here sometimes.

and then the Spokane.
Sue, you might want to edit your post. The Spokane has an odd closure date of 3/15 to protect spawning Redbands.
I doubt that the OP plans on traveling that far but you never know.:)

Here in the SE corner the rivers are up and cold, and the long range forecast has me thinking they will be that way for a while. My skinny water plans are mostly done until Memorial day as mentioned.
That said, lots of lakes are opening and are fishing well.

A little further east would get you to the Missoula area. Fewer closed waters and some potential for early season hatches. Check the road conditions and forecast for the two high passes in N Idaho.

Is the yak suitable for any walk and wade this time of year? I feel like the odds of that are slim.

Unless it is totally blown out, there are always places to fish on the Yak from the bank. You won’t be wading across it, but you can also catch fish without getting your feet wet.

When I fished the Yakima, I always fished it high in the system. It is easier to wade up there. From Easton up stream.
