One moderate cataract which probably will not need to be addressed, just watched. Have some floaters, part of getting old I am told. Can be addressed if they get worse.

I am amazed/impressed how much they can check so painlessly. Now knowing what to expect, will be going annually.

Yup , used to be they dilated your eyes , pretty uncomfortable. Now none of that on a checkup.
 
Only dilation was on the first visit to the Dr when they did all the measuring for the Toric lenses. Having had it done a number of times prior it wasn’t a big deal but for some it can be uncomfortable but not a deal breaker.

Always made my eyes a little sore, and sensitive for a day or so, , not a big deal . Now they check them without that. No, never a deal breaker , but it is nice now they don't have to dilate to check them .
 
I had right eye cataract surgery in August, 2022 and left eye a month later. I opted for the "standard" lenses. The procedure took perhaps five minutes per eye. The first thing I noticed was how vibrant and alive colors are. Blue sky? Huh, it can be now. I started wearing glasses when I was nine years old (1958). I had lasik surgery 20 years ago; I lost any up close vision but gained almost 20/20 in distance, for awhile and then back to presecription glasses with bifocals. Post cataract surgery? 20/20 distance, I need 1.25 power reading glasses for small font stuff. Otherwise it's like I've been gifted new eyes.

I delayed my optometrists advice on having the surgery, delayed it for perhaps three years. Yes, dumb a$$ thing to do. We laugh about it now that I understand how marvelous this procedure is and how painless it is (or at least was for me). I did go to Alaska and fished for coho for a week with one eye corrected and one not. That was interesting.

Side effects today? Bright lights are annoying, driving at night with modern high intensity headlights in my face isn't fun. Any sudden burst of light into my eyes and I have a floating light spot for a short period (a few seconds or so). The best side effect: clear vision.
