This is humorous. You didn't slap down fuck-all because I was baiting you.

Have you read any of the excellent material Adam has so generously provided? Since you're so interested in "educating" others on this forum, it would behoove you to educate yourself.

Urchin barrens? None of that has anything to do with the destructive nature of Sea Otters on the western coast of North America. Now, people with college degrees and funding will spin this truth into a lie that sounds something like this " Otters are good for the kelp beds " anyone with first hand knowledge just shakes their heads and looks at them as shameful.

You were baiting me G-smolt? seriously ? I'm trying to have a conversation with you. I would never try to "bait you" . What kind of a tool would do that?.

ok ok last one before I tap out for the evening...

Please explain your first hand knowledge of urchin barrens. Where/when/how did you get it? Let's get your background on this subject. Maybe I wasted a shit ton of time and money trying to learn from and work with some of the most respected marine scientists on the planet when I could have just pinged Jim in Anacortes to learn everything I needed to know.

Perhaps you should have taken what those "most respected marine scientist" had to say with a grain of salt, knowing that their very livelihoods hinged on the funding and results that they were paid to produce. Just perhaps.

Folks like you really worry me. Stay the political course no matter how many times you have been proven wrong. Repeat the same lies over and over until the dimwitted, misinformed, uninformed, puppets start to believe in it. Thank God it is not working on this forum!

... it's not?? I have been converted by his sheer persuasiveness that he and a elect few others know the truth. Only he can fix this otterly impossible situation of parking lots in the Pacific. I will now go forth and spread his message to the masses who are under the spell of Big Otter.

Thursday morning recap: Jim has accused the entire scientific community to be in a global millions-of-dollars coverup, with every scientific finding being corrupt and motivated by aesthetics and profit. On the other hand, commercial fishers - who "have skin in the game" meaning they are also motivated by profit - are the only parties to be trusted when it comes to managing the resources they harvest.

When asked what qualifications or experience led Jim to his conclusions when they are contrary to the scientific community, Jim is unwilling or unable to provide any evidence to give himself or his arguments credibility except for the suggestion of introducing sea otters to Pass Lake.

We are now faced with the choice of what information to take with grains of salt.

I would love to see a round table discussion on fisheries ecology/management and sea otters with Ray Hilborn, Boris Worm, Jim Estes, and.... Jim in Anacortes.

What never, ever makes sense to me is how the "giant science/research conspiracy" folks think there is actually any real money worth lying over in science and research. There are instances of lying and coverups in science, but usually that happens because somebody is trying to protect their ego and reputation, not make bank (sometimes young scientist fake data to try and get a job. Though when found out, by a field trained as professional skeptics and critics, their career is over, so very risky). Reputation is more treasured than money by many researchers.

If it's all about lying for money, you would be hugely stupid to pick science and research, that's lying for pennies when real dollars for you are scattered, and offered, all around you. Why not pick industry, make 3X salary (drive an Acura/BMW/Mercedes) and spend 25 years saying Exxon Valdez/Deep water horizon was harmless, housing development XYZ will have absolutely no effect on the local river, pesticides/BPA/plastics are totally safe for humans, and all those oil and natural gas wells are completely harmless for everyone and everything? Why not work on Wall Street (Ferrari and Lambo) and start a hedge fund so you can buy three houses in the Hamptons? Why not jump into crypto, at least the you have a private jet and can buy your own island in the Bahamas.

How stupid would you have to be to pick the f'n Prius? I (mostly) don't believe smart people are that stupid.

When I roll up to Westport in my 2010 minivan (it's actually a wrap to disguise the Bugatti hidden underneath), I'll tell you all about how to make big bucks as a scientific shill for industry. There's already a road map to help you follow the money!
