What have you done for your boat lately?

No fish were harmed but there were a ton of little bait-sized fishies and some close passes by harbor seals checking out the new ride. This morning’s wade fishing adventure had me nearly stepping on some leopard sharks! Sadly no photos/video but it was great to see them swimming around my feet!

@iggie, the wind covered the inside of my tent with sand even though I was in a grassy area. @SurfnFish, it in fact is a 1985 High Side that I had the gel coat redone by the guy who does the return Clackacraft guide boats. Put my first new ding in the chine when I tapped a rock in a rapid.

I took it fishing. Camped up at Timothy with my son and his fiancée. Fishing was slow, but it was a gorgeous weekend. Moonrise over the lake was spectacular IMG_1972.jpeg

Boat finally back on the trailer.
Trailer got taken down to basic frame then sanded, black Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer and then black paint.
Then I got to put it back together. A little more effort than I wanted to do, but it needed it.

Now I get to put the wood back in and install carpet on most of the horizontal surfaces.

if you store your boat in the garage, might consider installing a Fulton swing arm hinge on the tongue, reduces mine by 3' when swung , couldn't fit my boat in the garage without it.

Almost there. Just have to remove the "carp camo" left over from the hideous blue turf the previous jerk put in there. I know, I was the jerk that bought it with blue turf. 😁

And then fit & carpet the last bench piece and install the hinges for both storage tops.

Oh, and then re-install the bow mount motor and Scotty anchor mount.
I've debated whether or not to sell it with that motor since some of the replacement boats I'm looking at don't have them. My motor might not be powerful or long enough and it doesn't have spot lock so I should probably include it with the boat.

I'd like to make a couple late season musky hunts before it sells! ;)

Any reason you chose carpet? That's always been the first thing I take out of any boat I've had.

Read my mind, why do boat manufacturers put carpet in fishing boats? Huh, Stacy? ;-)

I think it’s for noise reduction. I put carpet in my drift boat for stillwater fishing. Any movement or anything dropped on the deck seemed to make a loud noise in the water that made all the fish leave the area. The carpet dealt with that problem. But, unlike bass boats, the carpet I had was removable so that it could get hosed down if it needed it, and taken out when I was actually using the boat on rivers where it was likely to get covered in fish blood. Stuck down carpet in an actual fishing boat - gross!

The main reason is it was affordable and nice looking. And it's not gonna be my boat for long. 😁

Having said that, as @Chucker mentioned, I think carpet is good for noise reduction in a tin boat. This is very low profile, rubber backed, mildew resistant carpet so pretty durable. Also gentle on fly lines.
If it does get really mucky from carpin or something you could remove a few screws and take that panel out to easily wash it off in the driveway or street.

Back to the fly line friendly- I've seen people ruin fly lines pretty easy in hard bottomed boats. Even in smooth hard bottoms, but especially with that gritty bed-liner shit.
After having this boat that had that gritty shit all over inside I'll never have it again. Scraped knuckles, knees & elbows on top of the fly line damage.
And NO blue, green or red turf or carpet! I'm probably going to have nightmares about that blue turf. Got the last of it ground off today.
So that means there are some 1998-2003 Crestliners and Lunds that are off my list. Why the hell they put those colors in their nice boats I'll never know. I can't do it!

I could've gone with a nice EVA foam, but I didn't want to put that much $$ or effort into it. I've already put in too much.
