Baseball 2024

Patience grasshopper...

Last time I went to a Sonics game was in 1979.

I have the patience and will live long enough to see the firing of the current Mariner's coach.

At least you are alive and have a great memory.

Mariners lost again. 0.500 and falling.

#0.540

Even with the Mariners losing, it is so much better than the political onslaught lately. I will leave it at that...

The Dodgers swept the Mariners aside like loose dandruff! Amazingly they have 2 more wins than any other team in baseball and have a lineup that has been lead by a group named: "Who are these guys?" So many injuries including the entire pitching staff except one guy. I don't recognize the names of many of the players that show up in the box score and at times tomorrow's pitcher isn't even known until-tomorrow!

Their billion dollar player-Ohtani-started out like a house afire but has dwindled over the season as National League pitchers have discovered that he is a sucker for a high outside fastball. His average has dropped from around .333 to around .290 as he continues to pursue long distance home runs instead of a high batting average. To me a ball in play is always better than a strikeout.

At the other end of the scale many were clamoring to get rid of Gavin Lux early in the season as he recovered from last seasons injury. But now he has turned his season around and is batting over 50 points higher and showing some signs of power. I have thought from the beginning that he was a talented infielder that might someday bat close to .300, getting rid of him would have been a windfall for some other team.

The position players are finally getting healthy and producing more consistently but the pitching staff is sketchy at best. They lack a strong starting presence that can anchor the team in the playoffs, no sure-fire guy that you can depend on for 2 victories in a 4 game series. Shut down pitching will probably win the World Series and at this point the Dodgers don't have it.

Can San Diego and Arizona keep it up in the NLWest? Both are playing some excellent baseball right now and making the normally boring NLWest a lot more interesting...

... Meanwhile, those amazing young Royals, at 71 and 56, have pulled within 2.5 games of the Guardians in the AL Central. Their young superstar, Bobby Witt Jr, leads the world in average (.352), hits (178), runs (110), is second in slugging (.619), and is third in on base percentage (.402) and OPS (1.021). The Royals are likely to have 3 players with 100+ RBIs, Vinnie Pasquantino (currently 95), Witt (currently 92) and Salvy Prez (currently 85). They are second in the AL in starter's ERA (3.54). Their big weakness is their bullpen, but it may be rounding into form with some recent acquisitions. Not at all bad for a team that had 56 wins last year.

Go Royals!!!

Next year is the 30th anniversary of the '95 season...
So the Mariners got that going for them, which is nice, if you like fireworks and garlic fries.

Servais has a managerial average of .516. .....Mediocre at best.

Cannuck from Canada liked his management style and winning %.

Maybe KC will pick him up.

Pinella had a .542 winning percentage...exceeding the .540 goal recently set by the franchise management.
;)

Is there still one more fireworks night ?

Edit:
3 more fireworks nights !!!!

The Mariners….preparing fans for football season nearly every year since 1977.

Bring back Edgar. He was the hitting coach from 2015 to 2018. I think he is still a special advisor to the team...

Huuuuuh? I don't remember ever thinking this, let alone writing anything about this, I could be wrong, I may have, but then I realized you must be referring to someone else, ie, the infamous Cannuck (with 2 n's) from Canada, that jokester, I can just imagine him writing such silliness. :giggle:

Yours Truly
Canuck from Kansas
Go Royals

The mariners. Let’s face it the team really needs new owners. The owners realize all they need is a average team and they need lots of promotions and bobble head nights and they let the nice northwest weather set in and the owners are smart enough to realize the mariners fans are suckers and will line the owner’s pockets. The fans really need to just stop spending money on the team. Until that happens what you see is what you will get. One of the worst professional sports franchises in the last twenty some years. I also root for the Phillies fortunately. They spend money to make money and want to win the World Series.

The owners sound like the Portland Trailblazers owners 😳
