What have you done for your boat lately?

2 new Scotty 2106 downriggers, 4 Scotty Orca rod holders, Rip Tide Terrova trolling motor and charger, Columbia river anchor set up, Easy Steer kicker mount.

300 scraps/cuts & bruises, 100,000 cuss words and hrs of frustration. I still have to finish wiring the Terrova, wires are all run just have to finish the splices and hook it all up.

moved the fuel tank and battery forward into a new seat box...in a 13' cat, every inch of gained open space is a win. I used simple split cable management tubing to encase the power and fuel line runs, flexible and plenty strong when wrapped and zip tied, weigh nothing.

I finally decided 4 things-
-The Valco needs new wood...and apparently more flotation.
-It also needs an epoxy coat on the bottom. Getting a little more water in the boat than I like lately. #rivetlife
-The trailer needs sanded and repainted.
-I need a bigger boat.

I wasn't expecting too much foam in this thing, but more than this. The only seat with foam is the front bench that is actually part of the casting deck. The split seats had none. I'm gonna be a real nice guy and fill those with foam.

I'll put new wood where needed and then a marine vinyl. I'll let the new owner put expensive deck foam or carpet on it.

Will take the 80 grit and wire wheels to the trailer. Gonna go with black I think.

Once it's looking real sweet I'll sell it. I know, I should probably enjoy it for a season before selling, but I am looking for something bigger.
Probably Crestliner, Lund, Lowe, Alumacraft or Smokercraft 16-17'. It's gotta fit in my garage, have a bow mount motor, at least 3, preferably 4 possible seats and preferably a walk-thru windshield. It needs to be nice enough my wife will hangout on it.
And the hardest goal...stay under $10k.
That puts me in the 2000-2010 years for the most part.
A Smokercraft Millentia or Stinger would be sweet.

Consider Sea Eagle Tuff Stuff for the epoxy bottom, topped with a coat of Rustoleum hull paint...we've done several rivet boats with it, works great, reasonably priced.
Last flotation chambers redo we used pool noodles from the Dollar Store, cut to fit and crammed in to the max.
Consider a swing-away tongue hinge for your next boat, $200 and a morning install, give you the best chance of max hull length in the garage.
Good luck with your project!

Let's see... what have I done to my boat?
Left it in Wyoming with a wrecked trailer, bought a new trailer got it home used it twice about 4 hours total developed a knock, now looking for a new motor..

Anyone have a 200 hp mercury sitting around my budget = so pitiful you might as well just laugh and turn away. :)

It looks like you and I are looking for the same boat................

Super Slick 2000 ordered, supposed to be here tomorrow.
Only had about an hour to work on it today, but managed to get almost half the hull (under the water line) wire wheeled. No paint to deal with so pretty easy to just get the oxidation off. Not as painful as I was anticipating. Weirdly satisfying, kinda like pressure washing. 😁
I figure another full hour to get the other side with the wheel and then another hour with sandpaper and brush to get the hard to reach spots.
Then the transom. Will wire the whole outside of the transom. The main transom (inside piece) is nice and solid. Just have to replace the outside "back board". Then the whole outside of the transom, board and all, gets Super Slick.

Getting there...slowly.

Cleaned the carb on the old two stroke kicker motor - 1990 Suzuki 4hp. Found some info on the web as to how the mixtures screws should be adjusted. Put it in the barrel and fired it up. No further adjustment needed. Mounted on boat and ready to back troll some Brad's.

I resurrected my Dad's 1998-vintage (first year!) Walker Bay 8 after a couple decades of being mothballed. Part of me is concerned that the hull will just disintegrate from UV damage. Another part of me really wants to catch at least one striped bass from her. Hopefully I can give it a whirl this weekend. If she falls apart while fishing... at least the water I'm fishing is only waist deep. 🤪

Super Slick is on...

Nice line

20240905_163512.jpg

It didn't come out as smooth as I thought it might, but definitely smooth enough and it is....super slick. ;)
And the rivets are completely sealed. Should be a dry boat for a while!

Also replaced the outside transom board. It got the slick too.

Next-
Ordered new bunk carpet, should be here today.
Buying 2 new 6' 2x4s today.

Then the fun with the trailer....80 grit wheel to get all the white paint and rust off
Then a heavy coat of Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer Spray & then paint. Going with black.
Same with the wheels.

Maybe new wiring....hmm, we'll see.
