FS/T 16' Fiberglass Canoe Project

16' fiberglass canoe, not sure of the maker, maybe a (Canuck?). Just finished patching and painting the hull(used good quality marine paint).
The seats have been refreshed. Now just needs gunnels. I'd keep working on it, but the rest of my summer just became completely booked and I don't have the space to keep it, nor heart to leave it outside this winter.

Pick up is in North Tacoma. Delivery negotiable. Asking $190.00 obo, or trade for a usable float tube or pontoon boat, or similar.

Looks like a Great Canadian brand canoe. I am fairly sure they went out of business about 10 years ago. I had one about 25 years ago. It was an excellent fishing canoe, very stable with a broad beam, and very sturdy. The only problem was that it was very heavy at about 80 lbs. As I am alone 90% of time it just got too hard for me to put on top of my pickup by myself.

Yes. yes to all that, wide and sturdy, the lip molded into the rails make it rigid even without the gunnels, but it is not lightweight. I have a much newer plastic canoe/kayak hybrid craft that weighs more though. I can flip it onto the roof of my Subaru, but it's awkward.

Looks very similar to my Canuck canoe, except that mine has a square stern.

Do you have the sail rig to go with it?

I did the gunnels on mine this spring. My canoe is stored outside, and as I didn’t want them to rot out again I used Trex, which came out really nicely.

No sail rig, but that would be fun.

Trex! That's brilliant, was it flexible enough to set in place without steaming it(could you even steam Trex?) what thickness did you use? I met another guy online with the same canoe and he is looking for gunnel replacement options too.

Trex is really easy to work with, and is quite flexible. I was worried it would be too flexible, but it seems to be OK. I got a 20’ board, which was I think 1” or so. Cut a couple of square strips off the sides of the board, then cut a groove down the middle of these with a table saw. Put that over the exposed fiberglass edge, then drilled and screwed through from the top. Was even able to use the old screws. Whole project took just over half a day.

I still have most of the Trex board if you want it. The profile is a bit strange, because of the way they make Trex deck boards, but there’s probably enough useable material.

What a great idea. I might take you up on that. Thank you!
