Non-Fly Dirtbag Baker lake sockeye 2024

It was 20" from my dropper weight.
Sorry, I meant how far behind the boat…like on the line counter?

The only reason I ask is that I noticed when I run a rod behind my boat at some trolling speeds (sub 0.5 land speed) I tend to get tangles if I’m fishing less than 25’ behind the boat. It’s really only happened to me in lakes or at Brewster.

I think the hydrodynamics from the prop cause it. Fyi it’s when I’m trolling with my main (Honda 60hp)

I was about running my dropper rods between 38- 45 feet on my line counters, never had issues with the double D dodgers on the same set ups.

How far back were you?

I've had that issue often. My remedy is to speed up while deploying the gear and slow down how I let the line out.
Even with line counter reels I slowly hand strip 2' pulls off the spool. It's what I've found to work.

Yeah after the 1st tangle I let it out very very slowly but it still got all wrapped up.

The numbers at the trap haven't been what I had hoped for this year given the optimistic forecast. I have been wondering if there will be a late push, but at this point I am starting to feel that there may end up being quite a few less fish coming up than expected. Time will tell...

That's the nature of salmon run size forecasts. Quite often they're off by a lot.

That is interesting to learn. I am planning to head out in the morning and am hopeful that I will come across a few fish. In fact, I really should be starting to prepare for bed right now. Too bad I have to be at work instead! 😁

Rough one from me today catching-wise. I had both lines in the water by 4:15 and pulled the boat out with one fish aboard at 11:00. I encountered it at 45' in the space between the crowds. Striking scenery as always, and I can't complain so long as the air is breathable.
