First mirror

I realized after catching this little mirror that it was my first! Definitely my first caught on an actual eaten fly. And the first ever, even counting all the carp I snagged back in the day, when it was legal to do so. I probably snagged a 100 carp back then. I can't recall a single mirror. I blew an eat from another mirror that was bigger.
Blurry pic thanks to iMessage. Thanks a lot Apple. :(

sweeeeeeeet

I haven't even seen one down here in the lower Columbia. I'm sure some are around, but if they are, they're certainly scarce.

Anything different about them other than visually?
I don't think so. I mean besides the genetic mutation that causes the differences in scales. This particular fish didn't fight that great, but that's carpin.
One will zing to the backing, another (usually the big ones) will diesel to the backing, the next one will frantically dart around, but not run and some just sort of give up. One of the things I like about carp. Each one seems so different.
Maybe mirrors are the lazy ones. 😁

I'm barely starting in my carp side-gig, but I really wanna catch a mirror. I've seen a couple on my local....but that's it.

Cool fish. Do any of the ones around here have the really silver scales that the variety is named for, or do they all just have normal carp coloration? Also are there any of the scale-less ones around? Those were known as leather carp in Britain.

I don't think I've seen any pics of any silver scaled ones out west. Most that I've seen are still the golden orange/yellow like this one. You can see the difference when they are in the water if you have good vis. I've never even seen a pic of a scaleless one. That would be freaky!
