NFR History African Wins Stage 3 TDF

Non-fishing related
Because you take a drug to help your performance does not mean you can kick back on the couch drinking booze and anytime feel like racing you win. Can't we all just be happy that he's a winner !!!!

Yes. His accomplishments should be celebrated. Great for him and absolutely wonderful for his country. Eritrea is certainly celebrating. Three TDF stage wins in one tour? Impressive!

They're all still using EPO, blood transfusions, HGH, testosterone, etc. They're just better beating the tests. The financial incentive is just too great.
Contrary to popular belief, Armstrong didn't jump off the couch, shoot up with testosterone and EPO and win the tour. The dude's an amazing athlete and has some great bike handling skills.
Doping has been the norm in cycling forever, and will continue the norm....... Forever.

Don't know if this is true, might be, if it is, we're still getting the best, ie, all things being equal, if they're all doping then the one who wins is still the best on that day and doping is not a decider - same is true with Lance Armstrong. Armstrong's greatest rival, Jan Ullrich, was guilty of doping, so when Armstrong beat him, he beat him as an equal.

Regardless, the Tour de France is one of the great events every year, and know one is going to spoil it for me (O'CS, not aimed at you, or anyone commenting here).

cheers

Not trying to spoil it for anyone. I was a racer and have been a fan for decades. As a long time fan, I've just grown to accept doping as part of the sport. Now if the whole "motor doping" thing is found to be a big thing, I'm done.

Me too, although I'm so into fishing now I don't follow cycling much. Kinda like Bonds, McGwire and Giambi, people either enjoyed it for what it was, or hated it for "impurity". I enjoyed the action, but then I like fishing weighted nymphs and catching stocked trout.

Me too. I've followed pro cycling, mostly the TDF, since the Lemond days. I stopped watching a few years ago as the television coverage here in the US began to disappear. Fishing and other pursuits have taken its place.

I will say the TDF was far more entertaining with those dominant (doped) cyclists driving the action. I don't think too many people thought they were clean. It was kind of a "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" kind of culture. I sure do miss watching the Tour and hearing Phil Ligget and Paul Sherwen calling the action.

The NBC highlights package that they put on YouTube isn’t too bad. Not like watching the action live, but who has time for that these days?

Pogacar’s ride today seemed a bit like peak Pantani to me!

Girmay is still wearing the green Points Jersey, and winning that overall would be a proud achievement. He had a hard crash on the run in to the finish two days ago and missed out on getting any points. Philipsen is now breathing down his neck, but it seems he hasn’t been too seriously injured and did well yesterday.
Does anyone else find it interesting to compare cyclists and Footballers (the non-American variety)? The latter writhe around in agony if an opponent happens to elbow them in the ribs or bang their shin. Cyclists are more likely to behave like Alexander Vlasov who, on Stage 9 crashed heavily at speed, totally destroyed his bike, probably suffered a concussion, but still got up and rode the remaining 50km into the finish. Yeah, he should have gone through the concussion protocol and called it quits. After the stage ended he went in for a checkup and X-rays confirmed that he’d ridden that last bit with a fractured ankle. Tough MFs.

That's why it's the hardest sport to do,
