NFR History African Wins Stage 3 TDF

Non-fishing related
Sprinter Biniam Girmay made history as he emerged fastest from the peloton to win Stage 3 of the 2024 Tour de France and become the first Eritrean rider to win a stage in the race's 111-edition history.
He has been close before, I don't think it will be his last...

Hate that it's only on Peacock, hard to watch.

What so awesome is that he's on a low budget team which means not the top of the line racing machine, maybe no big team bus to recover, shower, no bus has to ride off the mountain they just got thru racing up to get team cars.

MC Stage 5, #35, great sprint!!!

cheers

Did not expect that - seems like he was just saving his legs in the first four stages.

But the race judges are definitely going to take a look at that sprint. Lots of elbows and weaving going on.

Win number 2 ... and I still don't think it will be his last, he has a bright future.

Cheers

There’s no reason to think that he might be doping. He’s been around for quite a few years, steadily improving, and was expected to make a breakthrough like this sometime. Plus, the ranks of sprinters at this year’s tour are not particularly strong. If old Cav can win a stage there’s not all that much competition.

In the bad years, you’d see a moderate member of the peloton like Riis, Landis or Armstrong suddenly become a world beater, or a specialist like Pantani or Virenque would suddenly become able to do it all. That’s not what’s happening here.

They're all still using EPO, blood transfusions, HGH, testosterone, etc. They're just better beating the tests. The financial incentive is just too great.
Contrary to popular belief, Armstrong didn't jump off the couch, shoot up with testosterone and EPO and win the tour. The dude's an amazing athlete and has some great bike handling skills.
Doping has been the norm in cycling forever, and will continue the norm....... Forever.

Because you take a drug to help your performance does not mean you can kick back on the couch drinking booze and anytime feel like racing you win. Can't we all just be happy that he's a winner !!!!

Exactly!

Professional cycling has certainly had it's doping controversies. It has also made great strides in detection, controls and punishment. That has resulted in much more parity in the peloton.

What about American major league sports? If you wan't to complain about rampant, unregulated doping, that might be a good place to look. Pro cycling is at least addressing theirs.
