NFR WA folks: Toll bill scam txt messages - WATCH OUT -

Heads up for anyone in WA (or I guess anyone who drives through WA). There’s a scam WA toll website texting people that they owe money. The real "good to go" website is mygoodtogo.com and the scam one is close enough to catch folks.

No idea where they are getting the phone number list. But multiple folks I know have gotten the txts including two phones in our house. It's a clever scam that preys on the fact that WA tolls had a messy rollout that resulted in some folks getting monster fines for not paying their tolls on time.

Thx for the heads up. My DOL got routed over 520 coming home so we're expecting a bill, but someone from out of the area like us just might get caught by this if they had been over there.

Sorry, I know Hood River and Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks are toll bridges, I fish in Cascade Locks this fall. The tolls that I am referring to are in Metro Portland and people are Hawt Mad....

Yep. I got the same message yesterday. I have an autopay-renewed balance on mine, tho, so I can't be delinquent.
Went to my account, checked the balance, deleted and blocked the text.
Sigh.

I actually think it's designed to catch people who might only be near a toll once in a while. Folks in Seattle are all aware of the toll lanes/bridges and how to pay for them. It's the rest of us who drive to/through the city every so often who might get tricked into thinking "Oh damn, did I somehow drive on a toll lane by accident and not realize it? I'd better pay before I get one of those big late fees I've read about..."

It's a numbers game. There is little to no cost for the scammer to send tons of messages. Cast a wide net and hope to catch a few. As @Josh mentioned, it would be interesting to know how/where they got the phone numbers, or if they are just blasting big blocks of prefixes.

We often use the express lanes when visiting our daughter in the Seattle area. They always send the bill by mail.
